I have a Ruger Vaquero that is blue with the case hardened (style) frame.  I have never shot it, and it has been stored in my safe which has a golden rod.  I have not played with the Ruger in a while, but was in the safe this morning and noticed what appears to be rust!

I generally have parked, stainless or tenifer/black firearms - and this is the first rust I have ever encountered on one of mine.

I wiped it down with bore cleaner and then oil, but you can still see where the spots were.  What is the accepted treatment for this?

I use the edge of a nickel to scrape off the rust. The metal is soft enough that it doesn't harm the blued finish.

However, you should do this at your own risk.

I've used Nevr dull polish on my AK bolt with success, it kills the rust uber fast.

Cool - have you used this on a blued finish (i.e. will it mess with the finish)?
