So a month or so ago i bought a case if 45 auto RWS 230 gr FMJ from PSA.
Well so far i have opened two boxes and out of those two boxes half of the rounds have failed to fire. There is a solid strike on the primer but it does not go boom. if you recycle the round it will go off a second time. I was using a XD 45Auto. I have put WWB, hornady, Federal, Rangers and all kinds of reloads and what ever else i can find. This is the only ammo i can cause a failure with. I have not tested another firearm as its my only 45. However i can get my hands on a 1911 pretty easy. I reached out to the OEM through their web form. No response. I reached out to PSA. Super fast response but they wont take returns on ammo. I just hit up the OEMs web form again but not hopeful of a resolution. Anything else i can do here? I don't reload so pulling and re priming aint exactly on my list of shit i can do. |

Try it in a standard 1911. Not some sissified target gun or something with a light trigger pull. Something in military configuration.
The primers may be too hard for a striker fired gun. Or just sell at a loss to a reloader or with the note that it has subgun primers. |

It's pretty well known that RWS/RUAG ammo has hard primers. See if you can trade with someone who has a 1911. Their ammo doesn't work well with striker fired pistols, but works great with hammer fired ones. I bought a case of it from them on Black Friday last year and it works great in my Ruger P90. |

Try saving them for another weapon. Face it, RWS is rebaging Russian ammo, IIRC and that's like buying a bag of chips, some are going to be smashed and broken and not look like 'chips'. Chris RWS is Ruag, a Swiss ammo company.
The problem is that their ammo is NATO spec: IE, hard primers suitable for military handguns and SMGs. delemorte you need to test it in a pistol that has a heavy hammer spring to find out what's going on. |

RWS doesn't make pistol ammo in Germany, in house. http://rws-munition.de/en.html I know all about RUAG and Swiss P ammo, but this ain't that. I also know that they source their ammo from various countries, Russia being one of them, IIRC. Whether the primers are more, or less sensitive, I can't say regarding the stuff OP is shooting. Anyhow, he should save the ones that don't go bang, for another weapon. Chris |

in a XD check to see if your spring (mainspring) is backwards. my buddy had a similar issue and he put his gun together backwards i believe. ive never pulled it apart. ( i assume you mean the striker spring and not the guide rod spring) I found a heavier striker spring for 7 bucks. Says specifically for hard primers. Is that gonna be an issue? for 7 bucks could be worth a try. |
