YEAH!!! First to rock the vote!!

Some of their music is ok as long as you tune out the lyrics. Otherwise they're a bunch of whiny bitches.

first album is a classic that will stand the test of time. the rest of them are full of meh.

i seen them on their first tour opening for cypress hill on the insane in the membrane tour (whatever they called it).

I'd say Abba and Ace of Base is better than that shitty band.

AFAIC, even if they were singing "God Bless America", they would suck musically. Their guitarist is probably the least talented I've ever heard that made it beyond the basement. Their politics just makes it sound even worse.

Yep, he might rival Kurt Cobain in pure shittiness.

The singer sucks dick too, and uses too many delay effects to sound like hes talking through a radio in every song.

Tom Morello is very creative in how he makes noises, has an interesting technique, and has come up with some kick ass riffs with a unique guitar tone.

That's all the niceness I can muster about them.

Never really "got" them.  Never understood why they were so angry.

I don't know... that's a tough one to beat. IMHO Kobain is about one of the most overrated shithead (maybe not a good expletive considering his lack of a head) "rockers" to date.

RATM rocks.

Their politics suck.

The drummer and bass player groove together harder than any pair since JPJ and Bonzo.  The singer is a whiny bitch, but can communicate emotion, so he gets a pass from me. While I don't think the guitarist is a God, he's got some interesting playing.

FUCKING DOUCHEBAGS...

I saw an interview with them a few months ago and they are typical trust-fund college leftist types.

Anyone who uses Che Guevara as a mascot is a fucking moron in my book.

At least it's not whiney... it's angry music. If you can imagine the enemy as gun-grabbers, it works very well!

I'll go ahead and say that I like their music.  It has a solid groove and has an appealing vintage rock/metal/blues vibe to it.  It's kind of fun to listen to some times.

HOWEVER, their lyrics are some of the dumbest shit that I've ever read.  To a 13 year-old junior wannabe anarchist/communist, it might sound rebellious, but if you actually read and try to understand the lyrics, the vast majority of them have no substantial meaning.  It's just sorta anti-society/anti-government/anti-US bullshit.  Jesus fucking Christ they are DUMB!

But for the Constitution, they should not be allowed in the United States.

Playing them should be outlawed and there mascot shot.

Yeah, I doubt that they have any idea about how many people were murdered by Che Guevara, in the name of communism. But what do you expect from a band who's guitarist wears a ball cap that says "COMMIE" on it.

It would be interesting to see how many of the "They Suck!" respondants are musicians.

Knowing that every odd sound contained in the songs is produced by guitarist Tom Morello, it's a hard conclusion for a musician to come to.  The dude is impressive, right up there with Larry LaLonde and Les Claypool with his ability to coax new sounds from an old instrument.

Being able to cable together every effect pedal you can pick out of a Musician's Friend catalog does not make you "impressive" and to even read that someone puts him on the same level as Les Claypool makes me physically ill.

I'm not a huge RATM fan, but I do enjoy some of their music, and Tom Morello is a creative guitarist who coaxes some fucking cool sounds out of a guitar.  Fuck, for all anyone knows, he might be able to shred like Yngwie Malmsteen, but that's not what playing in his band calls for.  It's the collaborative effort of four guys, not the "Tom Morello shreds in every song to show his skills to Arfcom Project."  Technical ability doesn't have shit to do with creativity and passion for making music.  As far as their politics, I could give two shits.  I know they're douchebags, a lot of entertainers are.  I can overlook that silliness, and just enjoy the music.

Morello gets all of his sounds running through a digital wah, an overdrive, and a delay through a Marshall 50w head.  That's pretty much his entire system. IOW, he makes your namesake look like Tom Scholtz.

I stand by my statement, AND it's context, which you seem to have missed.

I don't think the critics posting can separate the politics from the music, unless that is they also think Audioslave is talentless; afterall, it's all the same musicians with a better singer and a rather different "message" if indeed there is a message.

Me neither, except they don't just wear their's on their sleeve... it's also injected into their lyrics.
