Have kind of wanted a Judge for a side arm snake gun for out at the farm then I see this.... .454 Casull. What is this round good for? So .410, .45 long colt and .454 Casull? Just about anything. |

I wonder if they have a means to stop someone from putting a 460SW in the chamber and how long it will be before that happens? They just need to make it go to 11 and chamber it in that too. Daniel If they made one in .460sw that didn't have the super-stooped freebore before the forcing cone, I might be interested. Mine would only ever see .454 and .460.... No .410 need apply and I have Peacemaker clones to fill my .45lc needs. |

The 454 is a hand held anti-thing round. I have one in the Ruger Super Redhawk and it is a handful. So .454 has some punch? Good for final kill on hogs? The .454 only gets edged out in performance by the .460 and 500 S&W Magnum and possibly a few wildcat rounds. Fantastic round for medium and big/dangerous game. |

Might be good enough for a hog, that is if a 300 grain bullet @ ~ 1600 fps will do the job. What? really? just damn. So I guess the wife shooting .454 is out? |

The 454 was the most powerful commercial handgun round in the world until the 500 and 460 S&W. Being based on the 45 Long Colt cartridge and designed to fit in standard sized revolver frames, the 454 uses very high pressure to reach it's power. The max pressure is 60,000. The 460 and 500 don't rely on such extreme pressures since S&W was able to build a larger frame with longer cylinder dedicated to the cartridges. My Ruger 454 flat out kicks, where my S&W 500 isn't much worse than a 44 magnum. The 454 can take any animal in North America, up to a 1963 Caddy. |

I wonder how well Taurus tested this? I have a 24/7 pro in 9mm that has several thousand rounds through it and runs fine. I have heard about Horror stories with Taurus though.

I have heard about Horror stories with Taurus though. ![]() The first commercial 454 was the single action Freedom Arms revolver. It has a five shot revolver. Ruger was the first major firearms company to offer the 454 and they wanted it to have a six shot cylinder. This meant thinner chamber walls, and the Ruger engineers had a rough time finding a stainless steel alloy and heat treat method that would hold up to the excessive pressure. If you seriously want a 454 then I would forget about the Raging Judge, and my personal opinion forget about Taurus all together. The Ruger Super Redhawk is a better gun for the money, or you could go with the S&W 460. The only draw back to the S&W 460 is the large size of the gun. |

She did pretty good with it, but it is not a round for the casual 9mm shooter and the .454 is about the same to hang on to |
