| So, I would consider myself a casual yet somewhat knowledgeable cigar smoker. Well, yesterday I was out with my wife and mother doing some Christmas shopping and stopped by a local cigar shop that also specializes in pipe smoking. It got me to thinking about possibly moving to a pipe. I was wondering if any of y'all had made the switch or tried pipe tobacco at any point. |

Sure. Buy a decent pipe to start out with, and don't be afraid of buying a used one since the mouth pieces can be easily replaced. I spent $55 for my new Savinelli pipe.
Pipe tabacco is cheap, buy a bunch of different flavors and try each one, I tend to like the milder plum tasting tabacco. I bought several ounces and it cost me about $20 and I got several good smoking sessions in. Also, don't put your pipe tabacco in with your cigars if you can help it. |

Hmm... Is there any correlation between my preference in cigars translating to pipe tobacco? I am into more robust/bold cigars. For instance some of my favorites are Onyx Reserve, Partagas Black Label, CAO Brazilia, CAO Soprano and Gukha Assassin.
Any good entry level pipes to start with? |

Considering you just listed 3 of the 4 worst cigars, I'm not sure where to begin helping you I personally started smoking pipes after smoking drug store tobacco in a corncob pipe. I've since upgraded but I find that going to the store and buying 20 ounces total of 10 different tobaccos to be a great starting point in figuring out what you like/dislike. Also no more Ghurkas. You don't hate yourself that much. |

Any good entry level pipes to start with? All of your questions are happening on an almost daily occourance. It seems that cigars tend to be a gateway to pipes as more and more of them convert or partake in both. Matter of fact, id be willing to take a flying guess and say that its probably more common for someone to go from cigars to pipes than cigarettes to pipes. As per your question, do some searching here and on other pipe forums. Everything youve asked is repeated ad nauseam. In not sending you away with at least one answer to your question, most reccomend a good corncob pipe to start off on. They are cheap and newb friendly. |
