So I missed my government class final. I heard the wrong day in class, wrote it down and sealed my fate. The date isnt listed on the goddamn syllibus, like it fucking should be. I had a 96 in that class. Now I have C without the final. The same grade as those lazy show up half the time asswipes. My nice 4,0 is down to a 3.5. And when I emailed my prof. asking If I could possibly take it, she gives me the excuse "It wouldnt be fair to the other students" What the fucking fuck? I understand that its my fault, but that's the lamest excuse ever. You let all the dumbass retards who missed the midterm make that up, as well as two important class activities. But when an A student makes an honest mistake, it wouldnt be "fair" to the others to let him have another chance. Fucking liberal cunt.

So that was how my day went, how about yours?

Update: Well last week I talked to the dean and asked if there was anything I could do (like take an incomplete for the course) and he told me that he was going to ask my professor if she would let me take it again. I guess he convinced her. I took it Monday and just found out I got an A for the class.

Can you take the class again ?

I would have gone to see the prof in person and pled my case there. It's easy to say no via email. A little harder when you are groveling at her desk in person.

Thats the problem. I couldnt. She's off on Thursdays and Friday. I dont have her personal phone number so I only could email her.

I dont know if I should go to the dean or not. I mean it was my fault I missed it.

What have you got to lose by pleading your case in person?

eta And I bet you won't do that again.

They didnt give me a make up interview.

How do you get all the way through the semester without knowing the date of the final? Wasn't it mentioned the week or two prior? Didn't any of your other classmates mention it in conversation?

Honestly, I feel for you, and I agree that you should grovel in person, but you need to improve your situational awareness.

Make an appointment with the dean.

Sorry dude...no sympathy.

That is why I double checked yesterday to ensure I did indeed have BOTH my finals on Thursday, and what time.

I'm far from perfect, but you should know what's up by now.  How old are you?

I never did that, but I was close once.  Luckily I had a friend in the class as well.  Didn't have time to study for it, but still pulled an A.

Find a way to talk to her on the phone or in person or make an appointment with the dean.

She is a liberal. I got impression from day one. It has nothing to with it being my fault and me missing the final. I understand that.

It was never mentioned until that day at the end of class.

You've got your reply to her email right there.

Also I'm not sure how they do it there but here the university sets the time for all finals and keeps them listed on the announcement section of the website. I think in four years i've had 3 professors list the wrong final time and i don't even know how many have had no idea when our final actually was until we told them.

Somehow, millions of college students are managing to show up on time and prepared for their exams this December.  It boggles the mind.

It was your responsibility to show up on the right date and you dropped the ball.

While it sounds like you made an honest mistake, I think your professor is right. It wouldn't be fair to the other students.

As others have said, suck it up and move on.

(Frankly, years from now, you'll probably say "I'm glad she didn't let me slide on that final. Best lesson I learned in that class.")

I think I'm just going to let it go and see if I can take the class over in a mini semester.

I am an idiot.

Try this:

Walk into her office and ask her again in person, before she can answer,
Whip your junk out on her desk and say "or we could just play with this for a while" while your banging it off her coffee cup. Chances are you'll get your A back without even taking the test.

Seriously, try it.

Well if he goes to his professor, and his professor says "c'est la vie-that's life", then he winds up in the same position.

I think it's at least worth a try to make one more appeal to her - pointing out that you have a great record in the class, and that you were present for classes, but that you stupidly wrote down the wrong date (she might think you are one of those textbook students who does well on assignments but doesn't show up to class).  If you are sure that she let other students retake assignments or midterms, it would be worth bringing that up as well, but DO NOT do it in an accusatory way - just say that you had gotten the impression that she was willing to work with students that screwed up.

There's certainly nothing to lose at this point, and reminding her that you ARE one of the "good" students who simply made a silly error in writing down a date is not completely unreasonable.

No thanks.
