A computer for $35. Has anyone tried it out? What can you do with the thing?

I love mine. I've had it for months now and I keep coming up with more and more to do with it. Not to be intrusive, but what are you doing with it? Right now I'm downloading every patent that has ever been issued. But that is just because I want to piss off Time Warner. The coolest thing that I did was install XBMC on it and stream video with it. When I used airplay to play a video from my iPhone to my TV through the Raspberry Pi it seemed like magic. And the fact that this little toy for $40 (once you add in the MPEG2 codec) was able to push out 1080p just blew me away. |

One of these days I'd like to buy one or one of any of the similar boards and build an MAME box. |
| I've got one, but I haven't had a chance to mess with it much. A VERY cool device for the money. They are developing a camera that plugs into an existing port. Then I will put them in all of my animal barns and connect to them VIA VNC to check on things when I'm away. |

I just got one... and have been thinking of something to do with the thing. XBMC sounds like a good idea just for the power saving over leaving my PC up 24/7. I've also thought of just using it for web browsing and mundane tasks for the same power consumption reasons.
ETA: Buy 64 of them, beef them up, put them in Lego housings, and make a super computer? http://www.internetevolution.com/author.asp?section_id=852&doc_id=250811&f_src=internetevolution_gnews |

I somehow got two, one from each distributor on the main launch. Had no idea until two showed up within a week of each other, I just assumed that it would cancel my order from one of the places if I didn't get ordered before they were all out of stock. Sold the extra one on eBay for $60 with a $20 wifi adapter, figured I'd give someone else a chance to play with it and not be one of the dicks asking $150 for them.
I played with debian for a bit, then put XBMC on there, but both were pretty slow... maybe they have finally ported over a smooth version of XBMC, I remember there being a few warnings about it not working properly. There was a few second lag between switching screens in XBMC. I used the Logitech K400 and it worked great for a media keyboard having the touchpad on there. The usb adapter is also very small. I really want someone to come out with a SD to Micro SD adapter that will tuck it all inside of the PCB, I've seen mods to re-solder it and get the SD underneath. |

I think I'm too old to learn this stuff, but I read about them all the time on DIY Drones ( http://www.diydrones.com/profiles/blog/list ) and would love to get into it! I think a Pi board attached to an Arduino controller would make a killer in-dash, touchscreen controller for offroad ligths, etc. on my Jeep.

The Pi has GPIO ports and could be used to control some relays without the Arduino board. @$25-35 pick one up and mess around, not too much of an investment. |

I've broken two in-dash touchscreens while off-roading, so I wouldn't advise it, they don't handle the shock very well haha. You wouldn't need the Arduino, GPIO stands for "general purpose input output" so it functions near the same as an arduino. I'm assuming its not quite as easy to work with tho. ETA: I need to quit spacing off and getting sidetracked after I hit the quote button.

I just got one on the 19th. I messed around with it for a while, then installed Raspbmc and watched some 720p videos. It played them perfectly. Really happy with the performance there. I'm using this keyboard with it. No issues with the keyboard, plugged it in and it worked (didn't even need a powered USB hub either). The trackball feels kinda cheap, but it gets the job done fine. I tried a 1080p video earlier, and it was mostly smooth, but it started stuttering at a few points, and audio wasn't working (a codec issue that I've read about, which there are some workarounds for). Overall I'm pretty happy with it. Amazing little device for $35. |
