I am looking at replacing my older Leupold standard ring set to a EGW 0 MOA pictany rail and a set of medium Warne QD ring (on sale). They will be going on a 223 R700 XCR LRT with a Leupold vx3i Scope 3.5x10. More replies/suggestions the better...

or should I just break down and go with a 1 piece mount?

You can often buy some of the nice vortex seekins-made rings very inexpensively on the EE. I have three sets I paid around $60 each for.

Why replace? If everything is aligned it working as intended.

it has a 2 piece standard leupold mount, I really just don't trust the windage screws or the fact that its a 2 piece mount is all.... Ive thought about side stepping to a 1 piece base but the screws kind of make me squeamish lol....

A picatinny rail is hands down far superior.

I would skip the warne rings and go with something better.  Nightforce, Seekins, Badger, take your pick.

Definitely use a 20MOA angled picatinny base.  If you don't, you'll run out of scope before the rifle runs out of distance.

FYI - There's never a reason NOT to use a 20MOA base/mount.

Leupold windage screws / interference fit mount thing is either complete shit or I have never gotten the concept of it.

would a 223 benefit from a 20 MOA base? I didn't think Id be able to push much passed 600

Most definitely.  With a 77  or 80 grain bullet, you can shoot out to 1000Y.   Definitely to 800 all day.

On any modern rifle, you ALWAYS use a 20moa base unless there is some very specific (and extremely rare) reason not to.

It's be around for years and works very well in most application.  Real handy when a guns mounting screw holes are out of alignment.  Here the company's take.  https://www.leupold.com/resources/about-leupold-mounting-systems/

I've used them for years but it seems anymore, I have a fear of the rear mount "popping out" after a light hit on the mount......

I have had that same setup on my main .30-06 hunting rifle for pushing ten years. It does not get babied... I just pretty hard, and it's seen plenty of knocks and bangs. It has had the same zero to the same load-- always exactly where it was the year before. I have never once had to dick with any screws on the mounts, rings, or the windage screws. Of course, I mounted the scope myself, using a proper thread locking compound.
