I found a add online (not the EE) for a Comp M2. After looking at the pics I got to wondering if this thing is a fake because of the laser engraved "Aimpoint" on the side. What say ARFCOM?

UPDATE Asking price was $200, I offered $100 (about a hour drive away), he countered with $150. Should I hold out for less or should I just get it for $150? I've been wanting a used M600 Scout Light, maybe this would be a good trade item on the EE?

Just ask for the serial number off of it, then call an aimpoint dist. and ask them to run the serial #...

Looks real, may have been thrown down a driveway or two, but real IMHO.

Looks real, but I'm wondering about that "extended" battery cap.

Hrm.

I'd want to know a few other things.

Basically the switch knob.  If it has positive clicks and doesn't go all the way around I'd say it's real.

Looks pretty darn real to me.  I have one like it.  Pretty sure they're straight up military issue. (Good chance that it's offered with a carry handle gooseneck mount.)  The extended battery cap has an extra battery isolated inside of it.

The rifle I am issued has an extended cap like that. None of my privately owned M2s have it though.

I would get a serial number to make sure it wasn't stolen from uncle sam.

can't tell from the pics for sure but it looks real enough.

fake/clone aimpoints have italicized font for the lettering in "Aimpoint", look at the switch and if it has a white dot instead of a white line then it's definitely a fake.  also if you have it in hand then rotate the on/off/brightness knob and if it rotatates around and around then it's fake, if it stops and requires you rotate the opposite direction to get back to the off position then it's real.
