Have an old tower I need to check the drive for something. Thinking I can hook up my old tower to a buddies monitor, check for what I need to, disconnect and the reconnect his tower to his monitor.

My question is will this affect his desktop display on his monitor at all or will it all go back to how it was? He's too particular about this and I don't want to take the chance screwing things up. I'm computer retarded but thought monitors are just that and should go back to how the tower had them configured.

Thoughts?

Swapping monitors won't mess with your buddies computer.

Should be fine. It's the tower that stores those monitor settings, not the monitor.

Just realized you might be the foot fetish guy. Do him a favor and don't look at that weird crap with his toob viewer. Advice still stands.

That's even more work snd risk of screwing things right? So monitor won't just go back to the way it was depending on computer?

It will not hurt a thing when you plug your tower in it will just move icon around to fit the desk top size when he plugs it back in too his it will go right back to what it was set at.

I do this shit all the time  going form 27 inch monitor to a 19 it just moves the icons for the computer plunged in when you move the other computer back to that monitor its is back to normal.

Thanks everyone for the info. All I could find with Google involved using two towers on one monitor with some king of switch, not just doing a quick hard cable switch.

As always, arfcom has the answers.
