I took my 870P SBS to the range yesterday to pattern some buckshot loads.  I also brought along one box of 1 oz. 6 shot field loads.  After shooting the field loads my shoulder was very sore.  The recoil was very severe.  I was dreading firing the box of Remington 00 buck I had brought, in anticipation of the greater recoil.  However, when I shot the buckshot rounds, recoil was not bad at all.  It was extremely tame compared to the 1 oz. field loads.  Any clue as to why the buckshot would not impart as much recoil to me as the field loads?

Buckshot was not a reduced recoil.  Standard 9 pellet remington stuff.
Field loads were federal 1 oz. #6 loads from walmart.
