I D/L & installed IE 8 beta,  I went to remove it & now my laptop won't boot. Says it's missing     \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

I don't have the original XP pro disk here at the moment but I have another copy of XP pro & can navigate to the recovery console but am not sure what command to enter to get the file replaced. Please help    ........................and yes I have learned a lesson.

Try this: System Restore

I went through this procedure a couple of weeks ago. Ultimately, I had to replace the hard drive, but I was hoping a system restore would fix it.
