I can only speak for Indiana, but last number I heard at work was we were loosing roughly 1,400 people or about 10% and are in the middle among the other states. They are literally bending over backwards to try and keep people who are ETSing right now. |

We are at 1.5 not counting illegal aliens birth rate but with immigrants a 1.7 at 331 million people. Japan is 1.36 and Korea .89 ranked in top 25 lowest birth rates worldwide. China is not worse than us as our drop started with the recession in 2009 and theirs in 2017. Plus the can draft no problem we’ll have political outcry over a draft. |

Talking about enlisted, not the officer class. People are dumb but they generally are not stupid. Why join the Army as a private and make squat when you can work for Walmart/Target/???, make squat, only work 8 hours a day, and not worry about being hurt or harassed all day. Much easier life as a civilian and I think most everyone knows this. Adding more money as signing bonuses will help but business in my area are doing that so no huge advantage there. Lots of people talk about GI Bill and other Military benefits but as I said people are dumb and their outlook is the next week and 6 months is pushing it, the military benefits are further out than the window than most of this generation looks at. Reservists and Guard are no longer reserve troops. They are actively deployed every couple of years. It is no longer a weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer. Lastly, the kids they used to get easily tended to be conservative, religious, from the south & mid-west, high school athletes. You know, jocks. Guess what, these kids are not interested in promoting woke culture for the good of civilization. They need to replace the folks they have lost the opportunity to recruit with people that are from the liberal side. One of the big problems with that is that cohort of folks is not necessarily known to be able to walk into the recruiters office and pass the APRT or have a clean drug test. I think Miley said the "recruiting base" now only comprises 20% of the population. Lastly, they hear stories like one of the neighborhood kids I know from 10 years ago. Enlisted in the Navy and wanted to be a computer person and got the guarantee. Went to boot camp and then got told you are going to scrub toilets for 6 months while you wait for your school. Not happy but still grinning and bearing it. Went to the school and did not do well so he was dropped (along with 1/2 of his class) and back to scrubbing toilets. Kept his nose clean for the next couple of years and started doing other sailor things but when it came time to re-up he had had enough. They offered all sorts of stuff to him to re-up or sign on with the reserves but he now understood the game and he was not going to win the game and went to work for DOT. |

The military including the reserve components has always operated with the ASSumption that there's a steady stream of willing enlistees. That ASSumption lets them either create policies that throw people to the side almost as a default, or not fight too hard to change WWII-era statutory requirements on manning and promotion. As well as the way the force is organized. They're about to get their bell rung, hard. |

Talked to an Army recruiter the other day about some other stuff and he said they have to work 6 days a week and no holidays off. Some of the other branches are working 7 days a week. It's nuts. But I have no sympathy for DoD. They made their bed and now they get to sleep in it. I now have to ask a kid if he's jabbed and if not, can't contract them, scholarship or no. I also tell them it's their choice but if it were me, I'd find another way to pay for school rather than try to get an ROTC scholarship or do SMP. At least until they change the shot requirement. Unfortunately, most of the kids I talk to are jabbed already. We've lost 3 good candidates because they're not jabbed and I'm fine with it. Their health is worth more than a scholarship. |
