I am so dissapointed in how EA games has ruined the Westwood studios - C&C and Red Alert franchise.  First C&C 3 was horrible, and now I just burned $50 on Red Alert 3 which takes suck to new hights. I could have spent that 50 on ammo ><

I'd rather see the original with updated graphics than anything they've done since. Playing the original against my old roommate via a serial connection was awesome. If they'd just remake it along those lines and include nothing but real weapons it would be the shit.

I agree. in RA3 it seems all the money went into hiring actors for the cut scenes. Not that I dont like all the sexy ladies in it- but if I want to see flesh I can do that w/out paying $50 for a game. I'd rather they put more time into the actualy game play. *sigh*

I haven't picked up Red Alert 3 yet (I'm waiting for the Steam version, which is coming this month), but everyone I've talked to so far has said it was very disappointing.

I bought C&C 3 the day it launched and was quite disappointed.  Visually, the game was beautiful, but I can summarize the rest of the game experience as "meh."

I was playing the "good guys" and they had a whopping five upgrade choices for the entire selection of vehicles.  Five?  Really?  WTF?  I don't expect every RTS to have the massive research/upgrade possibilities of the Earth 2150/2160 series, but come on - throw me a bone here!

Any, thanks for the heads up.  I'll probably get it anyway just because I can't resist a Red Alert title, but at least now I'm prepared for disappointment.

Game critics say the Red Alert series has always been tongue-in-cheek but I don't remember it being this cutesy.  One of the early maps has a pastel-colored circus ... it's like a Wii game.  Here's hoping for a true to form sequel to C&C Generals.

I wish I would have read this thread before purchasing this game a couple days ago. Luckily I only paid $30 for it. I agree, this game just doesn't live up to the previous Red Alert games.

My main gripes: At first I liked the addition of naval units, but then I got sick of how every map (even skirmish maps) had to have a body of water. It's just a little too much effort to maintain a ground, air, AND sea force without a pause button. Plus, the lack of a good oversea transport mechanism for ground vehicles. The graphics are way too cartoonish for my tastes. The units are also way too cartoonish and goofy. I found the addition of a computer controlled co-commander useless and annoying (would be fun online I suppose).

Maybe I'm just not very good at this game, but I had a really hard time building a decent force. I'd put together what I thought was a good mix of units, only to be wiped out by a smaller group of identical units (like 10 helicopters) that just so happened to be immune to whatever I was throwing against it. I'm no RTS expert, but I think I'm decent at these types of games. However, this game was kicking my ass on medium setting in skirmish mode.

C&C Generals was awesome BTW.

I downloaded the Demo on XBLive and played it for a whole 3 mins before stopping and deleting the demo from my HDD.

They have FUBARed C&C so bad I dont know if they could even release something to make up for.

I am kind of hoping that the new HALO TRS is at least somewhat cool and plays well. The graphics appear to be good.

I'll stand up for it :)

I too thought "bummer" when I first popped it in.  I played the old red alerts, as well as tiberium wars with my friend and we always had a lot of fun with the old games.  First thing(s) i noticed off the bat:

-Recources, WTF, the way the ore is setup it took awhile to get used to.  can hardly run a decent force with just 2 refineries.

-What units do I need to build??  I had the same problem as a previous poster, id build some units, send them in, and they would get obliterated.  I've come to realize this game has really figured out spamming units.  You need to build multiple units, and MICRO them in.

-Graphics...  :(  I didnt like the colored highlighting of my units, or just the general look of the game

With that being said, I think its a really great game thats well balanced.  I've really learned to like it and understand the units and expansion.  The cartoony graphics are pretty much a non issue now as I dont really look at them.  The tech - its a lot differnt between factions but I like it and think it has decent depth.  I WAS a big tank guy, just build land units.  This game does force you to do everything.  Although most of the time I dont build too much sea - thats depending on the map.

I'm playing this on 360 BTW..

What naval units does it have? I have fond memories of sailing my navy into a position just offshore of my friend's base and leveling it with cruisers and destroyers back in the old RA.

There are a bunch of naval units, about 3-4 different variants per faction. Like I said, I like the option of naval units, but every map has a body of water, and I just have a hard time controlling (or even building for that matter) a decent naval force in addition to the usual land and sea units.

It's been so long since I played the original, I forgot that it also had naval units.
