Just watched it for the first time last night with my wife. From the description, I thought it would be a horror movie, but Netflicks had it listed as "Controversial".
I was like, "Why did they say that?" Then I watched it. I LOVED it! It was one of the best movies I've watched in awhile. What did everyone else here think of it? My reaction: though it was slow during that monologue part and it was so predictable that I correctly predicted every plot twist, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I concluded that the only reason it was "Controversial" was because you ended up feeling bad for the "bad" guys. |

Well, I didn't even feel sympathetic for the three teenagers.
They were definitely overly hormonal or bi-sexual to be so eager to engage in a foursome that they'll do so with a woman in her 50's in a small trailer in the woods. Little odd. Even as a teenager I didn't want to have sex that bad to share a 50 year old grandma with two of my friends. I can honestly say that thought never entered my mind. Obviously, the cult people were nuts and unsympathetic. You can feel partially bad for the blood teenage girl until you recognize that she had already witnessed at least one murder and until the ATF showed up was perfectly content to witness more. The local Sheriff was an insane homosexual who shot one of the teenage boys and was looking to kill everyone in the compound. The ATF were obviously unsympathetic. The only sympathetic person in the whole movie is the Deputy Sheriff who seemed pleasant and was just trying to do the right thing working overtime of all things when what he wanted to do was be at home planning his five year wedding anniversy trip to Italy. So, felt really damn bad for that guy. |

It depicted one of those rare occasions when I wanted both sides to lose.
One could feel bad for the church because the ATF was going to set them up and cover it up, then give them the "terrorist" treatment, i.e. no trial, no rights of the accused, being set up on B.S. gun laws, etc. Not predictable? When I saw that ATF poster in the sheriff's office, I said to my wife, "You know where this is going, right? He's going to call the ATF with his tip to cover his own tracks and it's going to be Waco all over again." |

We probably would have went with her so that part was not that odd to me.

rented it from redbox the other night.
I liked it. besides the drawn out 10-15 minute church session.... i was like " we get it already, theyre nut jobs" the Wife- "Skyler" AND "Badger" from Breaking Bad were in it !!!!!! Some good shooting scenes. Lots of great one liners, especially at the end... the large "horn" / trumpet sound had a funny back story! it was worth renting. |

This movie was fucking horrible. Does Redbox do refunds? Lol. Seriously. This movie has the feel of a Direct to video B movie.
I can't believe this was written and directed by Kevin Smith. He should stick to what he does best, comedies. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I just finished watching it. I think it is a reasonably good film if you understand the back story.
It being loosely based on Fred Phelps, the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church. Like GrandForks said, everybody loses. No one in that flick has a moral compass at all. |
| Not bad I liked that nobody was the least bit sympathetic the teens were obviously looking to fuck anything that moved and had it coming the church people were nuts the sheriff was a trigger happy rump ranger and the ATF were there usual despicableness but what really bugged me was during the shootout the lack of weapons being reloaded I mean you saw them chambering rounds and they handled them properly but you never see anyone change a magazine or load firearms. |
so that part was not that odd to me.
