I caught one of the first showings of Redbelt today. I've been eagerly anticipating this film for nearly a year. Written and directed by David Mamet, it's the story of a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor in Los Angeles who gets caught up in the corrupt big-money world of Mixed Martial Arts. I won't go into much detail of the plot except to say that there is a lot that is not even hinted at in the trailer. A terrific movie overall, with great acting and a great script by one of the best writers in the business. The movie is not so much about fighting as it is about the warrior mindset, and how it clashes with modern values (or lack thereof). I will definitely be buying this one on DVD. Trailer link. |
