My Mom gave me his autograph then said "he hates white people" after. I was digging for it to sell this weekend but only found a missing Fobus holster.

When grandad passed away I found an old record of one of his old stand up routines. It had warped so bad I couldn't play it for more than about 10 minutes or so. IIRC it was pressed back in the late 50's or early 60's. That was a funny routine but man was it dirty! I had no idea he did those kind of shows, from being a kid watching him on Sanford.

I met him once in LAX. We were both waiting to board the same flight for Vegas. He was cordial but would not give autographs to the few that asked for them.

My best friend 's dad saw him in a local nightclub in the forties and said he was at least as bad if not worse than the records from the sixties and seventies.  He had the whole collection of records.

He truly is one of the most influential stand up comics of the last seventy years.

Yeah his act was dirty.

So was Groucho Marx's. His movies were family-friendly but his stand-up not so much. Even Marx's radio show "You bet your life" crossed the line at times. He had all teenagers on one night and the sexually suggestive comments he was making to a 16 yo girl really caught me off guard. Even by today's loose standards I think he'd be taken off the air for the lewd comments he was making (I heard it on Sirius/XM "Radio Classics").

I have some old Redd Foxx vinyl.  Dirty doesn't cover it--try filthy by 60s standards.
