[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Reign of Fire (Page 1 of 3)

Welp, this one was certainly a turkey.
IMDB Seemed like a good premise: flying, fire-breathing dragons, straight out of medieval times. However, there were such obvious holes in the story that it really strained the "willing suspension of disbelief" to the point of snapping like a pair of cheap panties. Really? They hibernated underground for ~1,400 years? And with all the tanks, artillary, missles, and machine guns we've got, we couldn't wipe out a bunch of fucking flying lizards? And they ate carbon? And ten-some years after the collapse of civilization, dude can not only fuel and maintain a tank, he also keeps an attack helicopter flying? Really? I seem to have read they are very maintainence-intensive.
And of course it was an absolutely formula Hollyweird movie: (SPOILER ALET!!!) alpha male is an asshole borderline psychopath who gets a horrible come-uppance, while the child-loving beta male lives & gets the girl. At least they had a couple good lines. As the tank & military unit roll up to the beta-males' compound: "The only thing worse than dragons: Americans." Certainly glad I didn't pay much for the DVD. I'd give this one only about two 30-round magazines out of five.

Compared to the bald, tattooed psycho? ![]() Van Zan is one of my favorite characters of all time. With nothing to lose, the world burned, he attacked the beast without fear, while lesser men cowered underground. A true hero. |

Wait.....A movie about Dragons has some plot holes? Interdasting. Hey, at least "Jurassic Park" was plausible!Unless you understand science. ![]() Oh, stuff and nonsense! We don't have warp engines or transporters yet; does that keep you from enjoying Star Blechh? Within the context of the story, it's believable. Dragons living underground for 14 centuries? Not so much.

I'd say the guy leading and rebuilding a community was a little more alpha than some hyper-masculine Texan bro. But that's just me. A real man destroys shit, not rebuild it. Like an angry six year-old.

Movies would be pretty boring without a suspension of belief for the movie...
I thought it was pretty good... I also thought that there was a underlying "pro-gun" message... I think *any* plot that has private citizens needing guns for anything is a good plot... |

Movies would be pretty boring without a suspension of belief for the movie... That I can take. Having holes in the logic of the storyline so big you could drive Odumbo's ego thru is just asking a bit much. 1,400-year-old dragons? And we couldn't shoot them out of the skies? And they ate carbon?
