I installed Windows 8 on a laptop for a buddy. Well the disk was stolen and he forgot the password.  He has no issue getting another copy. Is it possible to reinstall Windows 8 and just start fresh?

Download, install and run Belarc Advisor on his laptop. It will give you a list of installed programs and the associated keys.

Belarc Advisor

And then follow the instructions in the link below on how to make an install DVD or USB drive for Windows 8.

Once you make the install disc just follow the process and put in the key. You will have to format the drive which you should be able to do from the Custom: Install Windows Only option during the install process.

Oh, sorry. I guess I responded before completely understanding what you wanted.

If your buddy want to use a different key he can just change it without reinstalling Windows.
