Guys, relax. No matter what happens, you can choose to be happy, or you can choose to be miserable.... "Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without" - Sidhartha Guatama "the Buddha" "Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do no lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset." - Saint Francis de Sales "Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances.” - Thomas Jefferson "A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else." - John Locke and last but not least "The lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" - Psalm 27:1 thought some of you needed to hear this... |

Precisely |
|
The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.

Quoted: If Cable Television suffered a massive infrastructure failure and there was no cable news for a month, I bet most people would be much happier by the end of the month. For sure... All I'm saying guys is count your blessings. People have lived under MUCH worse circumstances and still chose to live happy full lives. Your happiness is up to you... |

Quoted: I don't want to be happy. I want to be secure in the knowledge that at least the country makes it another 4 years. It will. 4 years ago, there was much whining, wailing, and gnashing of teeth, including some nay-sayers who claimed we would never have another election in our country. Lo and behold, today we had an election. If Romney could make this a close election, imagine what a good candidate can do in 4 years. |

This is wisdom of the ages here guys... You can choose to take it or leave it. If you don't want to be happy, that's your choice. But it is a choice, and you can choose to be happy or not. You know, all this politics bullshit makes me want to shake babies and kick kittens. I don't need this stress in my life and Texas already went red tonight. An Obama win tonight (can't stay up tonight as I must be at work at 530 CST) might be the straw that breaks the camels back and I will finally cancel my cable and spend more time outside, with my wife, and my pups. Fuck obama. That is all |

Quoted: If Cable Television suffered a massive infrastructure failure and there was no cable news for a month, I bet most people would be much happier by the end of the month. truth. i watch people making themselves absolutely miserable by watching the political news. i don't even bother––i knew 4 years ago that i would vote for whomever was running against obama in 2012, so why would i stay glued to my TV trying to come up with more reasons not to vote for him? i watch just enough news to learn what arguments are being made, then i research the arguments on my own. in the spirit of BR870's thread, i offer the following thoughts from epictetus, the stoic philosopher and slave who also became the teacher of emperor marcus aurelius. from a contemporary distillation of his "enchiridion", or "manual for living": "Remember: the things within our power are naturally at our disposal, free from any restraint or hindrance; but those things outside our power are weak, dependent, and determined bythe whims and actions of others. Remember too that if you think that you have free reign over things that are naturally beyond your control, or if you attempt to adopt the affairs of others as your own, your pursuits will be thwarted and you will become a frustrated, anxious, and fault-finding person."

That Monty Python bit made me smile while I wanted to cry. We get the government we deserve...and we must deserve a horse cock up our collective asses. |

While I'm upset that Jimmy Carter is finally going to get his second term (From the looks of it), I can't even begin to imagine how frustrating it must've been 70yrs ago for those folks on our side to watch FDR get elected 4 fuckin' times The free shit army is legion and unstoppable ('till the whole thing crashes). |

I know I'll be fine.
But my kids are fucked. I've worked hard to raise them right, they're hard workers and well educated. And everything they create will be stolen by welfare rats (and that encompasses a LARGE part of this country) and Government thieves. Enjoy the ride. TC |
