Is there a difference in reliability between Carbine length and Midlength uppers?

people say that carbines are the least reliable

most claim the higher the port pressure the less reliable extraction is

so shorter=less reliable

Full length are the most reliable.  Never had an issue with 20s", both A1 and A2.  Never understood the issue until the short barrel fad hit.

Why?  Original design.  Both port pressure and dwell were considered in placement of the port.  The switch from M193 in the A1 to M855 in the A2 was a minor change.  But changing from a 20" to a 14.5" was major, since the bayonet mounting was preserved.

Add in the 16" minimum length with the desire for the M4 handguards and there is significant pressure AND dwell increases.  But a 16" mid-length system can work reasonably well.
