From the article:
The Senate GOP may not really want to immunize their own member and staff health plans from their health care policy changes, but because they are seeking to bring their bill to the floor under the expedited budget reconciliation process, they have little choice.

"We didn't want to exclude ourself from the impending healthcare meltdown. But... I did want my vote and I knew that myself and my fellow politicians would never vote for it if they were going to have to buy their insurance like commoners. Don't get me wrong we want to repeal the ACA at all cost, as long as those costs are all on you. Now go be a peasant somewhere else."

Our political system maybe broken beyond repair at this point.

This, we may not have a perfect system, but it is sure better than most if not all others in the world.  The problem is that we have strayed from the founders original intent and allowed dishonest and greedy people to sit in positions of power.  To be honest it's not the fault of the pols as much as it is the "we the people" who put them in a position where they could wreak havoc to the country.

If I recall correctly, everyone got exemptions from Obamacare too.

It always makes me laugh when I hear people that want more government because they're the ones most likely to have your interests in mind and aren't as greedy as those evil businesses.

Oh well, government gonna government.  It will happen with the next one too, and so on and so forth.

The current system is broke. No one gets there without owing a lot of favors to a lot of corporate donors. The ability of dark money to flood into our election process makes getting someone to actually represent the citizens near impossible.

In this particular example the healthcare and insurance industries each dump more money into the pockets of both parties than citizens easily. These investments must pay dividends or no more money. This will be me with the insurance companies making even more. Can you think of a better way to market than legislation ? I can't believe that people can see this. It's literally what corporations do, they stack the deck in their favor, and if you think they are not going to use politics to do that I'm not sure what I can say to change that.

Corporate donations and dark money own our process right now.

"We" reelect 90% of the House and Senate every time. Then factor in the amount of people beholding to the gov.,and we are screwed.

An informed, freedom loving people is needed, but that ship sailed long ago.Every infringement that was allowed sealed our fate.

Every time we rewarded them with reelection no matter what they did,put another nail in the coffin.

I don't see any way out, short of a massive event ( meteor hitting DC would change little-people would vote the same types back in,and probably some familiar names would be there as sons, daughters, granchildren get voted in).

There's other choices out there, and there are primary challengers as well.

I donated to Nehlen and Ward trying to help clean the swamp.Maybe they would have been better, maybe worse, but at least it would have changed a few more of them.

Can you imagine if we voted OUT 90% rather than voted the same 90% back in??

"We" don't have any other option to vote for. Every single election comes down to the corporate owned democrat or the corporate owned republican. They literally get to set the choices "we" get to pick from.

That shit sounds like battered woman's syndrome talk. We keep getting our asses beat and every four years they say "sorry honey  this time it will be different, this time I will represent you" a hundred days later you have a black eye and you think "maybe just maybe if I vote harder next time they will represent me".  Rinse and repeat. It's got to the point now that they aren't even trying to say you walk into a door. They will beat our ass in public while someone films with an iPhone and yells "Worldstar"

That is a perfect snapshot of the issue. Most voters are single issue voters who get their information from Facebook memes, group think and political ads. In that world money matters. Iowans probably didn't vote for the L candidate because they had little to no exposure to them or their message because they only get their information from partisan sources.

These people do the math and no third party is gonna beat a 5M dollar professional ran dark money political ad campaign.

I see your points. Stand for what you believe in and vote your conscience and fight the good fight.

Personally I don't vote for anything above the local level anymore and by that I mean city county local. Until there is something worth voting for I will just stay home and watch. You guys seem to have it under control and I'm much happier now that I've accepted this shitstorm for what it is, something completely out of my control at this point.

The citizens united decision really cemented this whole dynamic in place and I'm not sure how we can recover from it.

Damn near impossible to get a sane, intelligent, ethical person to run for office. If one does they usually get destroyed by the media or the crooks already in Congress. Probably won't change either.

Tax payers/producers in this country should be getting used to being screwed over since it has been going on for years and years.

We wont recover from it.

All we can do is work in our local area.I own a business and work people over every time they come in.Buddy of mine that runs a gun shop outside the next town over is the same way.We got a lot of votes for the Dr in our area, but without people in the cities doing the same thing (huge uphill battle),not much will change.

We did easily boot our D State Rep a couple years ago and replaced him with a good pro gun R.

Every one of my reps is a pro gun R,but we need to work on booting some of the other entrenched D's out here.Making a lot of progress in the pro gun department here.

I have no fantasy about this country changing for the better in my lifetime, but I won't stop trying.

The issue is, I believe that the left has covered their bases well. If the democrat party isn't showing signs of success-they migrate to the parties that do infiltrate the parties that do.

That the republicans are doing stupid shit lately (at least since the 1990's) isn't too surprising to me at least given the propensity of the socialists to infiltrate their opposition to destroy it from within.

When was the last time that the republicans acted like Republicans? The last time that they opposed any democrat politician? Stopped any democrat spending bill?
