Be an authorized agency.

Or grey market with zero warranty support. There is probably a big auction site that has a few.

No way for a civilian to own one? Seems kind of crazy a civilian can't own a light when we can own machine guns and suppressors with the proper paper work and background checks.

The FDA takes eye-safe lasers seriously. You can't see the IR beam, and can cause damage without knowing. Hop on over to the night vision sub forum. There are civvie-legal IR lasers, albeit at reduced power output.

Pretty silly in my opinion, Should be treated just like a loaded gun (or unloaded) you don't point at anyone's eye. I'm looking for a good green laser ( i knew they are restricted as the insight laser i linked). Looks like I need to brush up on my electronic soldering skills and look to china.

That.

For the sake of aiming a commercial .07mW IR laser will work fine up to distances where you would want a dedicated NV rifle scope anyway.

The only thing 25mW does better is illuminate at LONG distances (think miles) and it allows you to zero your laser with the pinhole cover on in daylight.  A clever person could just line up their commercial laser with a pre-zeroed day optic.

Sorry I was being lazy and linked that laser knowing its under the same boat as a more powerful green laser (I don't know what the good restricted green laser brands/models are)

Make one.   IR diodes are available.   Brass-housed modules as well.

You could then turn a little piece of round stock 6061 to make a body for it.

Why not ask them and find out? I'm sure if you are eligible, then they can take care of you. If you aren't eligable, we'll then...

Make one, buy grey market, (and hope it's not stolen), or buy one of the reduced power ones.

If you don't need to designate targets for hellfire strikes, the reduced power ones are probably fine.

Just like we should be fine with single shot break open guns and ar15s should be illegal

On a serious not, it looks like china will be my go to. I hate buying chinese, I would fill out any paper work needed to be able to own an American one (short of become a dealer)

I can't even see much beyond 400 yards in the dark, and never shoot that far. The 0.7mW from my OTAL is more than adequate for me.

To be fair, all I have is red lasers and I'm less than impressed with them. I do alot of night hunting and they are hard to pick up fast in a bright spot light on a running animal. Is green really that much more visible even at 5mW?

I wouldn't know that answer. All I have is IR. When/if I go visible, it will be red because Idaho gets cold. Cold temps & green lasers don't get along well.

Watch what you post on here man.  Couple of agentmen came on arfcom a few years ago and caused some trouble.  I'm not saying your saying anything wrong,

Just tread lightly
