What? I thought you were like 24. Yeah, I had the impression that you were a young kid on your first hitch for some reason. Anyway congrats and thanks for your service. It's probably because I'm immature. But, I've been AD since 93...with a break for school for 6 years. That time still counted thankfully. |

Early retirement is way under rated. My dad never retired he died at 83 but he loved working . He started before his parents died at his age of ten. I see that staying active and having a thinking job kept him going. People who just stop die. I would like to try a few years to see if I can handle it.

really? Full "kiss my butt" retirement, or working as a door greeter at walmart retirement? good for you man, I hope you can have many years of good heath to go along with it He's .mil, so it's not full-on "sitting at home playing golf everyday" retirement. His military pension will not cover his expenses unless he's living in a tent somewhere. He'll have to pick up work somewhere else to make ends meet. |

Hope you didn't factor Social Security into that equation. It is going away soon. The country can't afford to continue it. They are also talking about cutting back .mil health care into retirement. So, I would make plans there too. Everybody is going to take a bite of the "cutback pie." Everybody. I expect that they'll even go after the .mil retired guys. Not in the sense of not paying them, but reducing the check over the years by reducing COLA. ...and you're right. They have already proposed the Tricare increases for retirees. Everybody is going to get to play in this game. Right now, each side is just fooling themselves that only the other side has to change. |

You'll miss it I didn't. As a matter of fact, the awesome got turned up to 11. I did. You spend almost 22 years in, and when the switch is thrown, part of you doesn't want it to happen. The other half realizes that the reality is that the force is drawing down, and better for you to retire and keep some young guy in uniform who has years left in him. |

So, I would make plans there too. Not counting on SS money, not old enough to collect. My Retirement will pay a mortgage, car payment, utilities etc...I'll work part time for fun money. But the great thing is, I will be able to quit if I don't like my boss. |

I'm kind of going through an early-life crisis with this. I have been AD since 93' as well, albeit later in the year. I have obligated myself through 23 years of service though so I'm stewing for a bit longer. They have relaxed the requirement I believe so if I really wanted, I can request to bounce at 22 years.
My predicament is that I changed professions at the 13 year mark, and subsequently will not face time limits, but rather requirement to promote. With current and forecasted numbers I will be able to stick around past 30 if I desire. I just need to figure out if I can play reindeer games for that long. I know I am whining and these are paltry "problems" that most people would commit homicide to have. The decision to serve certainly takes a toll though. Good luck man, you've earned the cushion. |

Congrats man! Is Steve okay with this? I mean, he may not want you around all the time........he probably needs his Steve time. One piece of advice.....don't do anything stupid in the next 12 months. This. In his own way, Steve served his country too. I'm sure Arfcom would hate to see your relationship suffer due to the new dynamic of you no longer leaving. I'm fairly certain the family service center has classes to help you two transition. |

We'll continue travelling when I retire, I get bored staying in the same place more than 4 years.

| I'm hoping to die on the job. it will sort of disrupt the day, maybe they will put a chalk outline around where I dropped. They will be talking about me for years to come. someone will say...."management finally worked someone to death." "Remember that guy that fell over dead, right over there, what was his name?"....................just kidding I hope......good luck in the future. |

My whole damn time since '93 has been AD.
