I have a waterproof shell that is in need of a little revitalization. I usually just washed, and dried it according to instructions, in order to restore it. However, it is starting to lose some of DWR layer's beading properties.
I have read in the past about products specifically designed to clean, and treat the shell in order to restore some of the efficacy of the outer layer's repellant ability. I think, specifically, people were recommending either Nikwax's, or McNett's treatment products. The Nikwax seems to be a wash-in type of treatment, where the McNett is a spray-on / heat-in product. Does anyone have an suggestions, or preferences? My shell still does a decent job, overall, but the high-wear areas are starting to hold water (although it doesn't penetrate the Gore membrane), and the breathability seems to be lower. |

OK! This is from a goretex rep when I was doing trials and development in the Army.
1: wash frequently with Nik wax Tec wash or similar (if you have to use laundry soap on no account use Biological types milder the better). 2: Iron when dry it helps keep everything laminated. 3: check your kit says goretex on it before you complain to goretex

Without the beading, you lose all breathability. DWR treatment is vital, email the maker? The wetting isn't too bad. Just a few spots get damp after a while. They suggested a spray-on solution after washing and double-rinsing with NikWax, McNett, or a similar wash. I don't think they want to make a specific recommendation, for whatever reason, but reading through the literature, I saw mention of McNett ReviveX. They didn't recommend wash-in treatment. |

Wash with carbon soap, "scent a way" or Revivex brand
Then use Revivex and spray exterior and put in dryer for 60min. The key is to dry or bake the Revivex back into the coating. Will post link when I find it... Revivex |
