Last March I tagged myself with one, M1 Garand USGI AP ammo and a piece of 1095 steel, anyway
I almost forgot about this pic

It was still in my camera when I was deleteing some pics earlier today.

100 yards to the Target, 100 yards back to me

I think I deleted them

Here is a pic of the target

All that AP round did to that piece of steel is peel the pain off of it

You have extremely bad luck, not only did the AP round fail to penetrate, the steel plate was perfectly positioned to bounce it back the 100 yards to your shoulder.

What are the odds?

Clyde Barrow came back from the grave and capped you with some M2 AP from his BAR.
Yea....that's it.

You need to download your camera more often.  You probably have the pics of where you accidentally sliced your hand open, wrecked your car, etc. etc. etc.

This is another good reason to bring some OD tampons to the range.   I am secure enough in my sexuality to die with a string hanging out of me.

Stick it in the hole to stop the bleeding?? I've never heard of that before.  Is it used commonly for GSW's?

Only when shot directly in your mangina.

A good "pressure bandage" is a winged Kotex maxi-pad.

They are good at absorbing blood, easy to carry in your bag.  Since you are usually shooting > 30 minutes from a hospital, if you get nicked good, you don't wanna bleed out.

tampons also leave a shit load of non steril debris in the gunshot wound. a standard pressure dressing is a MUCH better choice.

Am I the only one that has a problem with some of the photos.

First, all I see in the first photo is the copper jacket.

Where is the steel penetrator?

There is no way the jacket came back 100 yards all by itself and hurt you that badly.

Second, the base area of the jacket in the first image appears to be solid.

The copper jacket of AP ammo is open in the base, sealed with a lead plug of some sort.

And a 30-06 AP will leave more of a crater than that, even at 100 yards.

we routinly shoot steel target plates at 100 at our local range with ap. we see similar results. Just because it is ap does not mean it will penetrate all grades of steel.

as for the rest, dpmmn has been around a LONG time and i trust what he posts.

I thought about that after I posted.
I wasn't implying that he was fibbing, but my knee jerk reaction was that he
was hit by something other than what he thinks it was.

Someone else's stray bullet, or maybe he had counterfit AP.

(or maybe there is still some of the projectile inside him)

It was a TRUE Lake City 43 AP round.

My buddy probed the wound for anything else with a Gerber EOD tool, and that jacket was the only thing he found.

As far as going to the Doctor or an Emergency room, I just didn't feel real comfortable with that at the present moment of when it happened.............even though we were shooting on a "Legal Range"

Yeah, no shit!  I mean not liking the E-Room is one thing, but....

Did you stitch/staple it or just put a tire plug in the hole?

Honestly, I just gauzed it up after the quick clot, it took about 4 weeks for it to heal up

I would say the performance is Stellar!  Comes to Sub-MOA after 200yds, a stop and return in the middle, terminating through 4" of flesh.

That is something that is about a 1 in a million chance...

Too bad, cause then he'd have had a Kotex with him to stop the bleeding.
