I read earlier today that the new secdef won't take office till March of next year. Due to some rule that he has to be out of the military for 7 years before becoming a politician. Don't know how true that is, because it sounds stupid, but that's what I read anyways.

So a training focus overall has shifted to deal with force-on-force major conflict, the downside to that is few remain in the DoD that remember what that entailed in the big picture. Except for ancient troglodytes like myself, few in the DoD remember the cold war posture we had, how it operated and what it takes to do that again. * until the deadliest virus in human history sidelined most training events by 80% or more. |

ETA: As acting SecDef he has, I believe it is, 220 days to be either get confirmed or replaced. |
