Left-wing extremism linked to psychopathy and narcissism: study  Left-wing extremism is linked to toxic, psychopathic tendencies and narcissism, according to a new study published to the peer-reviewed journal Current Psychology. "Based on existing research, we expected individuals with higher levels of left-wing authoritarianism to also report higher levels of narcissism," the authors wrote.  As result of the new data, study authors Ann Krispenz and Alex Bertrams have coined a new term for such psychological behavior: the "dark-ego-vehicle principle." "According to this principle, individuals with dark personalities — such as high narcissistic and psychopathic traits — are attracted to certain forms of political and social activism which they can use as a vehicle to satisfy their own ego-focused needs instead of actually aiming at social justice and equality."  The study on left-wing authoritarianism also showed that many times they do not practice what they so loudly preach. Social justice is often used as a guise for these activists to behave unhinged, the research noted.  "Minority groups should be made aware of the narcissistic 'enemies' from within their activist movement, as these individuals could hijack the cause thereby reducing the success of the activism in many ways," the authors added. This isn't news to the Riot Squad, but I'm honestly surprised to see this kind of research being published at all, given the current political climate in academia - especially in the social sciences. Most of the people who were arrested during the late May and early June 2020 events in Minneapolis and Saint Paul were for curfew violations, and many were issued citations and quickly released. Around a dozen protesters had their bail posted by the Minnesota Freedom Fund, according its interim director, Greg Lewin. Among them, the organization posted the $75,000 bail for a 28-year old Saint Paul man who was charged with attempted second-degree murder for allegedly firing gunshots at Minneapolis police officers who were patrolling East Lake Street during the overnight hours of May 31. |

And speaking of sentencing, here's another cautionary tale: Second guilty plea tied to 2017 torch march ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A South Carolina man has pleaded guilty to a charge in connection with a torch march that occurred at the University of Virginia in 2017. Tyler Bradley Dykes entered a guilty plea to burning an object with the intent to intimidate on Thursday. He was sentenced to five years in prison, with four and a half years of that suspended. Pleads guilty to a Class 6 felony. Gets maximum prison sentence, anyway. I guess he should be grateful that they didn't also fine him $2500. Remember, it's okay to light a tiki torch, even on public property, unless the Commonwealth of Virginia reads your mind and determines that you intend to intimidate people with it. |
