I found this Rippetoe variation a couple different places online, and I was wondering if anyone has tried it and what their results were.

A
3x5 Squat
3x5 Bench
1x5 Deadlifts
2x8 Dips

B
3x5 Squats
3x5 Standing press
3x5 Bent over rows
2x8 Chinups

Rotating A and B 3 times a week so you do each 3 times in two weeks.

That's basically what I've been doing now for about a year with the only differences:

–– I alternate pullups and chinups
–– Dips, pullups, and chinups are done to failure.  If I get stuck on my presses, sometimes I will change and do 3 sets (or no sets) of dips, pullups, and chinups because these are accessory exercises
–– I alternate between rows and power cleans.  PCs are tough for me because I have really long arms, but I've noticed that the reduced frequency of doing rows has helped my progress with them.

Anyway, these are all minor things, and you will do fine with what you are doing as long as you eat enough.
