I bought some clear rope light several years ago from HomeDepot.  It was left on 24/7 for a couple years and slowly started to die.  Is there a better brand/style that lasts?

Radio Shack used to sell rope lights.  Check their catalog on line.  They don't really stock anything in the stores anymore.

See what brand the mobile home next door has.

I bought some discounted after Christmas (from Target) and I ran them around the inside of my gun safe.

I just noticed about a two foot section that burned out. I'll wait for more of it to fail before I replace the whole length.

I don't know if a higher quality version is available.

I didn't know anyone else did that.  I've got one strung around the inside of the door frame.  Beats the hell out of an outside light or one of those battery powered stick ons.

Also have a chemlight stuck on the door above the tumbler knob, in case the power goes out.

I have an extension cord run into the safe through a small hole in the back and my golden rod dehumidifier and the rope lights are plugged in and always on. The current draw is pretty low, the atmosphere in my safe is always warm, and I have no corrosion issues with anything stored in there.

I just replaced mine that were 8 years old with the same $15 Home Depot rope lights.  $30 every 8 years is OK with me.

The newer ones are LED`s.  They use very little power, dont get near as hot & have a lifespan of up to 50K hours.
There is no dimming over time.  They have the same output until they fail.

When I misread the thread title and it being a 1GR thread, I was curious.  Thought I'd learn something new.

The new LED's have got the old ones beat... the old ones suck up 300 watts per string.

So I went over and you're mom brought me out a lamp made out of an Old Milwaukee's Best bottle and handed it to me.  Turns out she thought I said rape light.  Said she had no idea about any rope lights, but it was time for you to come home for dinner.

So I was at Home Depot today and decided to walk by the rope lights.  I am sure it is the same display that was there years ago when I bought mine.  I look up and about half the clear rope is burned out.
