Depends on the size of the tear, the type of repair they do, what kind of work you do for a living etc.
If you have a significant tear, and do what I do(firefighter) you will be down 4-6 months from reg duty. Just had my shoulder scoped and repaired last Thursday. It is the third shoulder repair I have had |

I may have a rotator cuff tear and will now for sure next week. Who has had one and how long were you out of work or unable to use your arm as before? 6-weeks of constant pain. 3-years of frequent pain. 8-years of frequent mild pain. I elected to not have it surgically repaired. its still hurts pretty often. wakes me up at night sometimes. Staying on top of my shoulder exercises helps minimize the pain. coworker with a simular injury was out of work for close to a year after having surgery. My shoulder is stronger than the coworker who had surgery. The coworker who had surgery has less pain than i do. Another coworker with a simular injury is trying to decide whether or not to get the surgery. Good luck in whatever you decide. |

I have not torn a rotator cuff, but the labrum. Required a pretty extensive surgery and 1.5 years of rehab. I have also had 3 ACL surgeries on the same knee, and I will tell you, I would rather have 20 more knee surgeries on the same knee before I had another shoulder surgery. The re-hab is full of fuck and hurts like sumbitch. If you have it repaired, just know that ice, re-hab, and pain meds are your friend and listen to your physical therapist.
Good lkuck! |

Tendon in my shoulder cut almost in two and pulled down many bone spurs. Clean up and sew tendon, smooth off spurs and sink two screws to pull tendon in proper place. One solid week of agony, then I went back to work using only my left arm. 4-5 months recovery and PT and I'm almost as good as new. |
