Not the wood shaping tool.

Why does my wireless network keep connecting to other networks, even though it finds mine?  I have a Netgear router and a Dell notebook.  When I click "view wireless networks", it lists my neighbors' unsecured Linksys, Netgear(not mine) and a few others, including my Netgear. But, most of the time it bumps to one of the other networks. I tried deleting the other networks, but they reappear.

Probably a simple solution, but I ain't computer savy.

delete all "preferred networks"

uncheck "automatically connect to non-preferred networks"

Thanks.  I have deleted the preferred networks before, but they reappear. "automatically connect to non-preferred networks" box is unchecked.

If you are a good neigbor, you should tell them that their "network is showing", and offer help on seccuring it.  Too many people just plug stuff in out of the box and let it go without a seccond thought.

make sure you aren't using 3rd party wireless software (i.e. dell truemobile software).
uninstall the wireless card from the device manager.
reinstall.

I hang an unsecure access point off my ubernetwork just as a community service, I have it throttled, firewalled, and MONITORED!! I have it automatically directed to a captive portal that requires an e-mail address and apartment number to log on for free and provides a notice that all traffic is UNSECURE AND MONITORED by ME!

That being said, my personal wifi is encrypted using an AES-PSK

Remember not savy here. If I uninstall it, how do reinstall it?  I'm supposed to have a cd to reinstall it.

before you uninstall,
download the driver from the dell support website.
goto device manager
uninstall the wireless card by right clicking on it (its located under the "network adapters" tree)
extract the downloaded driver to the default directory (write this location down)
reinstall the driver by running the setup file located in the folder you just extracted.
