So I've got a bottle of "good" rum that I picked up awhile ago (Mount Gay Extra Old). Is there a particular method to appreciating rum, like one would with single malts or such? I'm kinda new to drinking rum without things mixed with it

Try this on the rocks: A healthy shot of good rum, preferably dark and spiced; add 3/4 shot of peach brandy and 3/4 shot of apricot brandy. Stir and garnish with a slice of orange. I squeeze a bit of juice from the slice for taste but it isn't necessary. The drink is called a "Rummer" and it is the signature adult beverage at all of the taverns in Williamsburg, VA. You can get the recipe in their better cookbooks. We serve them on special occasions. Light drinkers must be very careful. The drink sneaks up on you quickly. ![]() |

From the bottle. Preferably on the beach next to a bonfire and dark-haired senoritas. Note my location ![]() This might sound dumb, but the entire reason I drink rum is because it's all I'll drink when I go on vacation. So whenever I drink it at home it reminds me of sitting around a bonfire with senoritas Usually I'll put two shots of Sailor Jerrys into a glass with 12 oz Diet Coke. Usually at the beach it's fruity punches and mixed drinks, but that's too much effort back home. |

Sailor Jerry's is my usual rum, but this stuff was highly recommended, so I figured it was worth a shot. Pretty good stuff. |
