Very interesting and impressive.  Seems like it's effectiveness is contingent on the integrity of the cover material holding the ceramic pellets in place.

Definitely costs more than armor steel. Probably weighs more for most applications too.

The Soviets used a similar concept of ceramic spheres embedded in some kind of plastic or something in tank armor.

Its basically spaced armor, just lots of little spaces.
