| As an individual officer purchasing a 14.5" M4, do I need to do the form 1 and pay money to be legal? |

Thanks for the response. Code 4 has the M4 SBR coming into stock, all others back ordered. Is it worth the expense of what $200 fee for this? I'll just maybe wait for the 6920 16". To me it is, because with the tax stamp you can purchase 7.5", 10" or any other SBR upper. Change them out if you like. I can't answer for you though, it is your money. |
| It generally takes two months for your paperwork packet to go through to get your form 4 back with the stamp. If you need the rifle now or can get the 6920 sooner (considering the NFA approval times) than the 14", do that and get the receiver registered SBR later. It was worth the money, paperwork and wait for me. Ever try to clear a shotgun house with a 16" AR with Can attached? I went 11.5, it's the perfect length for what we do in my opinion. |

Sooo.....you only need one $200 tax stamp or one for every sbr upper you own? Not being a smartass.....I just know enough about the whole SBR thing. |

You have a 200 dollar tax stamp for ever SBR lower you own. You can put what ever short uppers you have on that SBR lower. |

Lets say you own an SBR lower with tax stamp and you order a 11 inch upper from say.......LaRue, do you have to provide LaRue with any documents for the purchase? |

No.
There are a couple of companies that request copies of forms when they sell NFA parts and accessories. I just don't buy stuff from them. For example, while you would need a tax stamp for a 11 in LaRue upper on a SBR, you could assemble it on a pistol with out any special paperwork. |

I looked into class 3/NFA stuff including SBR and cans for myself, not the job. What I did not want to have to worry about is after I was gone, WTH was my wife going to do with this stuff. I hope to live awhile and die of old age, but I did not want her to need to worry about it. Everything I own is good to go for anyone in KY who can own a handgun. If I was single, another story...
Sad part is, outside of KY, some of my stuff is a no go in some places. I just play with the .gov stuff when I want to, or friends who have the cool toys |
