Thinking a lot lately about getting one of the new gen rifles. Between the two, which would you most want in your stable? SCAR or ACR?

Tag for interest.

[#2]
ACR.

[#3]
Needs more poll.  SCAR FTW.  Local fun shop told me the SCAR heavy will be $150.00 more than the SCAR Light.

both

SCAR is worlds above the ACR.

Now with poll.

Strongly dislike both, but if I had to pick, definitely the SCAR.

Holding out for the SCAR 17, will probably start at $3500

I'd pick XCR first, but of those two, I think I like the SCAR better.

Not seeing them yet around here.   Anyone seeing them available?

If they ever release the 7.62 version... Holy crap. I'd be all over it.
Otherwise, I don't have any experience with the ACR but I know my SCAR shoots like a sonofabitch. It's on par with an extremely sweet M4.

Not seeing any yet in Central Texas.

A nearby shop shot me their pricing last month and I posted it here....

I think the figure for a 17S was around $2750.

Scar, hands down.

For me personally I will be staying in the 5.56 realm with which ever gun I do get. I have a Saiga in .308 converted and set up very well but as of right now I have no 5.56 rifle, just a RRA AR pistol.

I like new plastic guns and I have laid hands on a SCAR and liked the feel of it. Never even seen an ACR. They are kind of a mystery to me right now.

Another vote for Pie––-and only pie.  SCAR was pretty ho-hum for the cost, IMO, and the charging handle seems prone to breaking your fingers.  The ACR......well, we're all familiar with that debacle, and there's no way in hell it'd get my vote unless it lost 2 pounds and about a thousand dollars, as well as regaining the different magwells to take AK mags (rather than the 6.wondersumthings).

So, pie.  There's rifles out there that do the same things, for a helluva lot cheaper.

While true, possibly,  the question was between the two. So for all of your grandstanding you completely missed the point and simultaneously did not answer the question posed.

But thanks for playin.

Yep the enhanced models are out now. I have an itchy trigger finger, and I have a bad feeling I will get one and then cuss and wonder why I did not get the other instead! LOL

I think he just needed the latest tacticool flavor of the month to show off in every thread.
Next month the ACR will be up for sale and Ghetto will be posting a 17s...

And also for those saying ACR, got any reasons why you would rank it higher than the SCAR?

What do you think it does better? What do you like about it?

I haven't heard much about them.

I thought the SIG felt heavy, and the Ruger felt front heavy.

The charging handle didn't really bother me at all on the SCAR, but I fucking LOATHE that god-awful stock and the BUIS feel like they're mounted on skyscrapers. The whole damn thing is just uncomfortable and awkward to hold and shoot. I kinda wanted one for the novelty factor until I used one; now I wouldn't even want it for that if it was nice and cheap.

I don't see the appeal.

Not even gonna comment on the ACR.
6/19/2010 7:31:10 PM EDT

Not even close.

SCAR comes with folding stock-no have to wait for "enhanced" version

SCAR works with suppressors

SCAR is actually being used by our warriors.

Same price?
6/19/2010 7:31:24 PM EDT
[#35]
Handled both, fired neither.

ACR seemed very heavy for being a "new gen" polymer wonder rifle.

SCAR seemed oddly light. Stock on the scar was nice.

ACR stock was not my cup of tea.

That is the extent I can commen on them. If i had to pick, I'd go with the SCAR.

ps. Thought about a Barrett REC7 in 5.56?

After handling them both I got the feeling that the ACR was a toy and the SCAR was a weapon.  I realize that's probably hyperbole, but it's the impression I got.  I did think the ACR was more ergonomic.

Pie IS my answer.  Buy and/or eat lots of pie.  More enjoyable, better value for your money.

ETA:  Though, the time I messed with the SCAR, it was crazy light feeling for its size.

I will choose a gun with a well documented track record and choose the scar. I am about the purchase a scar, well my wife is getting it for a gift since I'm a good boy toy.

I could afford a ACR or Scar, and I want something different from an AR or AK as I have both.  The Scar is more then a koolaid overhyped fad like the ACR, and I had the cash for the ACR at the original $1500 price point. But we all know what happend with shrubmasters clusterfuck. So I built a middy AR and a Glock 23 and still had money for ammo at the $2300 price point. The ACR isn't proven except for the companies with something to gain says it is, and the fan boys that have to get the latest whiz bang gadget who goes to the range fires 200 rounds, calls it the most awesomeness reliable gun EVER!!! Cleans it like the tiniest spec of dirt is heresy and rubs it with a diaper.

Me I'll take the gun that went to hell and back and lived up to the hype. Balances well and comes with all the goodies without having to buy an enhanced version for an extra $400 bucks. Hell you will be able to buy the Scar17 for the same price as a shrubfuck ACR.

Oh yeah, I bought a ACR on suggestion from a guy I bought a complete spikes lower from that I kinda kept in contact with.

Plan was gas piston full float upper.  He says ever think about XCR?  Never heard of them, welp couple emails later he told me he sold all his XCR shit and bought a ACR cuz he didnt like the SCAR so much plus he said FN pretty much hates their customers (not as bad as H&K)  and he figured parts would be available for the ACR even before the scar.

plus I paid 1900, lowest I've heard/read/seen.

edit: shit left details out, dont feel like typing a thousand words, so this will sufice.
