| with the collapse of the stock market, and the world markets following suit, has the fecal matter finally hit the oslolating circulation device for real this time? |
Well we are in prepatory Battalion Utilization Light Load Standard Hostile Infantry Tactics stage currently. Which means we can be ready to go in 24 hours. |
Pretty good definition, either the electric grid has failed, government as imposed draconian restrictions on communications, large asteroid has taken down the server, or all the sponsors have failed due to absolute gun control laws being enforced. |

We've lost close to the same percentage in the Dow, in two weeks, as the market lost in two days in 1929. I'd say the fuse is lit, but I don't know how big the charge is going to be. i'm reasonably certain that there are a lot of attorneys and accountants, burning the midnight oil right now, in between checking their wristwatches, trying to figure out how many more weeks, days, hours, or minutes, they can squeeze normal operations out of a company's assets, without being able to borrow short term. Many company's stock is down so far, they will have a hard time borrowing long term too, no assets to secure loans with. I didn't like the idea of bailing out gambler losses, but the money is committed, and if it gets turned into actual short term loans, at high volume, before the crest of the coming wave of bankruptcies hits, this might end up rough like the 80's, not dismal like the 30s. If not, there will probably be enough bankruptcies to start another round of bank failures. Layoffs, you bet. It's already happening. One of the Virginias laid off some 600 state workers today. NBC Nightly news tonight, Brian Williams was speculating whether GM can survive another year and a half. If GMs at risk, not only is NO company safe, the real problem is that nobody KNOWS who's safe, and who got "lucky" enough to borrow just before the short term loan markets froze, and who now can't pay that back, and also can't even service the debt. The average Joe Sixpack is just now wondering how bad this is going to hurt. When he starts actually feeling the pain, I'd not care to predict how he will react. Whoever takes the White House probably has carte blanche to rewrite whatever he chooses to, inmcluding the US Constitution, with the emergency as his excuse. There's a LOT riding on this election. My money's on Palin, win, lose, or draw. I don't think the question is whether we get beat down any more, we're going to get beat down. The question is how far? I'd prefer a rehash of the 1980s to a replay of the 1930s. I'd prefer a replay of the 1930s to a couple hundred years back in the dark ages. In any event, I'm about as ready as I can reasonably expect to be, for 80's, 30's, or chaos. I'm dialing in more survival systems by the day, and another month would put me in very good shape, but if we don't have a month, so be it. Hope for the best, plan for the worst. |
+1 At this point everday is a extra blessng to enjoy it berfore we have to pay for it. |

One of the things I love about GD and SF are all the interesting and clever ways that people come up with to describe SHTF. "Fecal matter hit the oslolating" (sic) "circulation device." Hmmm. So does the "circulation device" imbue its recipients with Oslo, Norway like characteristics? FYI: "Oscillating." |
Holy "SHIT!" Quoted for posterity. |
Yup. As long as we have Arfcom, we are ok.

The wings are a nice touch. |
When that happens, expect to have some Canadian soldiers operating in the US, too. www.northcom.mil/News/2008/021408.html
