i finally made the list for the space shuttle door gunner tryouts. I always wanted to reclass but never knew the job for me, but this is it. I wonder what the ROF of a 240 is in space?

i passed the quals and should be shipping off to AIT in Houston pretty soon. see you guys on the dark side of the moon.

ok you got me, it was an EOD suit test.    i got smoked for 45 minutes in a bomb suit, followed by another 45 minutes smoking in MOPP4 with a pro-mask on.  festivities included hauling mortar rounds, sandbags, giant PLS tires, digging holes, running, pushups, crawling under vehicles, and memorizing stuff during all of this. it was pretty hot out too, im glad i made it through.

Ive wanted to go EOD for a long time and now im past all the trials, and on to getting a school date!

heres some more pics:

heres me getting into their business out on unrelated missions:

EOD truck stuck in three feet of human poop

me getting to lay the charges and pop 40 mortar rounds we found

Good for you.  I'm glad you found something else to do.  I tried EOD.  I went to the hospital and discovered ( I already knew) that I was color blind.  That shot down the chance for me.

You got a few more hurtles but your well on your way, don't do anything stupid. Get your ass home enjoy your family when you go to school don't lose your mind florida is nice but your there for a reason. Be a mentor to the junior troops and a supporter of your seniors study your ass off. You what you will be going back to if you fail.

Good Job hang in there and shit you will have to deal with on your way to becomeing a line dog EOD Tech will  be well worth it, Proud of you bro.

This is what you wanna work up to.

You look like you're all suited up and ready to fire a Glock.

Thank God EOD no longer use the TAPP suit, 30 minutes in a TAPP suit is like 6 hours in MOPP 4, that is what I had to run around in for about hour with a 155mm projo on my shoulder.

So are you attached to a EOD unit now, if so pay attention and you got the best place to learn how a team operates - right out in the field.

I reclassed from 51B Carpenter/Mason Engineer to EOD, of my original class of 45 only 6 of us made it.  However most of those failed were straight out of AIT, all of us who passed were reclasses.  Reclasses study better, are wiser, and know that they don't want to go "needs of the Army" if they fail.

You will do just fine, study hard and pay attention to detail, and most importantly you have to "WANT" to earn the CRAB!!!

no, i'm deployed with an infantry unit now,  but my first couple months in country i was dedicated EOD security escort for a navy EOD unit and i learned a lot.  since then my platoon has had countless opportunities to call EOD via IED's and caches we find, and ive always managed to attach myself to the techs and get some training out in sector.

they all know me now, and my platoon leadership knows i am reclassing, so its pretty much a given that im going to jump out the guntruck turret and help them drop the C4 or stack everything.

i hope to get a school date right after my stabilization ends, and that i can do some OJT beforehand.

eodtech2000, where are you stationed? my unit is out of Benning originally.

I am no longer in the Army but I was stationed at Yakima Training Center with the 53rd EOD when I was in.  I work as a Civil Servant (GS-11) with the USAF at Robins AFB now but am trying to get back "home" and get picked up by the Army working in Germany.

The suit kicks ass and all, and while I understand the need for maximum manual dexterity, the absence of gloves still has to be a bit disconcerting.

Not much is gonna keep you alive on the device should something go wrong. It's there mostly to protect you on approach and the walk away from the device. it keeps you neatly packaged should you need to be picked up.
