I have had physical custody of my 12 y/o son since he was 9 months old and have never gotten any child support. Two years ago I get a letter from social security saying I would be getting a check for my son since my ex was now receiving SSI benefits because she can't work( She has always been a little nuts). She still does not pay for stuff like his karate lessons(she is to pay half) and I don't really bust her chops. Now i find out through my son that she is making and selling crafts, tote bags, shirts, and other stuff on craigslist, myspace, and local craft fairs. Is this considered fraud? I only get $79 per moth from SSI that I can live without if her SSI was taken away. I want to turn her in so bad I can taste it. Seems to me like she is getting free money from Uncle Sam and using it to make more money......makes me mad. What say AR15.com??

Lawyer up and go to court, they will make her pay back child support and everything.  They will deduct it from her SSI.

My guess is 75% of SSI IS FRAUD.

Do it... you have all the evidence online, anyway. I hate when people abuse the system like that!

I'd take a few things in to consideration first. Like, is she living the good life or barely making it by? Is she using any of that craft money to buy your son some things? How would your son react?

I'm kind of in a similar situation, except I'm 22 and my mom is a skytz. Be sure to talk to your son about it.

She has had a b/f for a good 10 years now. He owns a home and has a good job. She is by no means barely making it.

Meh.

My wife knows of at least three of her former students who intentionally bomb tests to fail classes so they can appear to be disabled and get SSI.

She said that these kids are actually very intelligent, and she knows it isn't "test anxiety".

But how can you test intelligence when the person wants to look dumb?

Before you step on your dick, realize a few things:

People on SSI can make up to a certain amount of money before it starts to affect their SSI income.  I've seen some patients make up to $800+ a month.  I have seen a few start working enough that they are no longer eligible for SSI and are able to come off it.

If she is guilty of anything, it may be tax fraud, in which case you would contact the IRS.  Is your financial house in order?  Do you take in any money under the table?  Can you survive a tax audit?  Before getting the gov't involved, realize that you may be calling in a fire mission on your position when she calls the IRS and has them initiate an investigation.  Even if you haven't done anything wrong, you will likely pay out a lot of $$$ to prove it.  Don't let your hatred for her harm you.

Food for thought.
