JEsus fucking christ!! This is why I fucking prefer to go to an old analog store and get a disk. I don't give a shit that you have to DRM the game from steam but i hate it when i have to give a credit card. I know how fucking shitty the interwebs is when it comes to security. Sadly i just purchased one freaking game off steam and it wasn't even that good. Serves me fucking right. Now I'm off check my activity. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! |

They aren't sure HOW deep this goes. http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/valve-confirms-steam-user-forums-and-database-hacked/ It turns out that the recent Steam forum breach is more serious than originally thought. Head of Valve Gabe Newell issued a statement today apologizing for the inconvenience and confirming that, along with the forums, the Steam database had been compromised. Newell says: "We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.” |

That's why I do my Steam transactions through Paypal. They would have to hack both accounts to get anywhere and I get e-mailed right away if a Paypal purchase is made, so I don't have to keep watching my credit card statement. Thanks for the "heads up" though! |

Woohoo, I don't have a forum account. But this is a major black-eye for Steam. Kharn yes it is I never kept my CC on file with them, so here hopes that mine is "safe". If you bought anything ever, they have the number stored in their database. Don't think for a minute they don't. I suggest anyone having bought something from Steam request a new CC number. |

Oh well. I ask my CC company for a new number every 6 months anyway just as a good practice. I guess I will be getting that new CC number a little early. ![]() I seem to get a new number every couple months. It really pisses me off. I have a LOT of stuff that automatically hits my card. They always close it, and send a new card. Sometimes I think I would rather be a victim of fraud.

I know of someone who has been fighting 35K in fraudulent charges for 3 years, and his credit is fucked. His situation, put me on the change CC number path, plus a few other things. |

Believe me, it is low on my list of priorities. My wife HATES it, but I figure having too much security is impossible, while not having enough SUCKS. I'll take the inconvenience. I would prefer to select when it happens, though.

Christ almighty, some of you are are like newborn babes out on the scary internet. ![]() Do you purchase things online from a variety of sources? Then at some point, your CC# will be compromised, period. Probably already has been. Tune your lady-like hysterics down a few notches and get a new card, if you are so worried. |

Quoted: Steam FORUMS! Steam EVERYTHING! A statement from Gabe Newell reads in part: 'Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users, Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums. We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating. We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely." |
