As a whitewater boater with over 30 years' experience in multiple continents, K1, C1, freestyle/downriver/slalom competition, yada, yada, yada, I think whitewater SUPing is the goofiest looking thing I have ever seen to invade the WW world...EVER*.

(* caveat...the only exception to this rule is the Creature Craft.  Go ahead...Google it)

Tier 1 SUP Operator:

I guess it makes sense to park a 13' vessel on a 2" high riffle and "surf":

What now, asshole?

Appropriate uses for SUP:

Or...taking your dog for a "walk":

       Bote boards are the best.

There is a pile of folks using those around here.
In fact I have given serious thought to getting one myself cause they look like fun to me.

Just keep them off the rivers, please.  Last thing I need is to have my head at 3' off the water sitting in my kayak, and watching a 13' long cruise missile heading right for it because you couldn't catch an eddy.

It's bad enough getting plowed over by 13-passenger river buses, because the hippy dippy "raft guide" thought he could squeeze his behemoth on the same water feature you're currently enjoying.

(This is all in jest, of course.  I think everybody should enjoy our rivers...but I do think whitewater SUPing to be particularly goofy looking.  And, I do wish "raft guides" would learn & respect the rules of the rivers before they get on the water.)

As a fellow whitewater paddler, I also fail to see the appeal of whitewater SUP. However, I'd like to have one for flatwater excercise.

I have never tried this whitewater SUPing, as no places to do so here.  I have done the basic flat water stuff and ridden a few small waves but nothing hardcore.

Perfect excercise.  If you are a woman. Really works the sweeping muscles.

Nothing against it, really. Just tired of yuppies fucking things up with their fads.

Eta: used to think of it as an old man thing. Now it means "aholes paddling through fishing spots without any care for the guys wading or with lines in the water."

I didn't know this was a thing. Kind of want to witness it in person
