I was driving my SUV the other day when the check engine light came on and it also stared blinking at this time I noticed that when ever I stopped the whole truck was shaking and when I accelerated and slowed down it almost sounded like metal grinding. Now I just had a new engine placed in it a little over a year ago before I had gone to Iraq and it maybe has now 8,000 miles on the engine. Someone said it sounded like I had gotten bad gas? I'm not sure what it is or what it could be so if anyone has an Idea and also how I can fix it please tell me. It a 2001 Ford Expedition 4x4. It has had the oil changed every 3,000 miles or 3 months. I should also tell you it had just taken a 2,000 drive from Cail about 2 months ago. I just had gone out side to try and start it and now the new battery I just placed in it is dead. I tried to jump start but all it did was make the clicking noise from the alt turning. FU&K!!! |
Yep, blinking light means stop, NOW. A constant light needs to be checked, but a blinking light means severe possible damage very soon. Edit: I'm assuming your vehicle is a 1996 or newer OBDII. |
It only flashed when I accelerated big time then it had gone away I saw it flash once the hour I had to drive it back home. Thanks for the advice I think I might have to do that then I know it gets there and it wount be as busted. |
It's not only an engine light. It's an idiot light as well. Not a slam, that's the slang term for it. There are few guages on modern cars and those aren't looked at regularly anyway. The check engine light is there to catch your attention. On a modern car, they are so insulated and the stereo id so good, you probably wouldn't hear anything on your car. I bet your brakes are gone down to the metal. Try driving it with the windows down and the radio off. See when the noise and shake happens. |
I'll try that if I can get it started again. Thanks |
Take out the alternator and have it tested before you just replace the battery, And NEVER try to just jump start it after replacing the alternator hoping the battery will charge(like on older cars)It will cause "SUDDEN ALT. DEATH" and void any warranty you had on the new alternator.Don't ask me how I know
|
Well it took me about 45 mins to jump it but it started and the check engine light was off and it did not shake the truck in and it ran fine in park the only thing now is the grinding sound when I brake but I think I need new brakes on it.
I had my oil filter cut open when I was driving and my engine locked up on me. |
Sounds like a rock or some type of debris hit the filter. Usually the quicky places strip the threads or don't tighten the filter. Or in my Mom's case loose the drain plug, aka drop it in the oil, and charge her $20 for a new one. |
Yep you prolly need brakes. Pads for sure. Probably need rotors as well. At the very least turned. Watch out for the fuckin' someplace will try to give you. It's not really that hard to do yourself if you feel up to it. Maybe a friend in the motor pool can do it on the side? |
Everyone knows the holgen fluid is the first thing to go.
