Do you guys disassemble the razor and dry out the blade and razor? Or do you just run hot water over it, shake it out, and hang it on the stand?  I've been shaving with a safety razor for a little over a year and I always take it apart and dry it out. Am I wasting my time doing this?

I only rinse mine.  I clean it when I take it apart to change the blade.  Merkur 34C

You're wasting your time.

Rinse it with some water and then spray with with some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle.  You'll want the highest % rubbing alcohol they have.  Walmart has 91% (I believe) rubbing alcohol for $1.50 for a big bottle.  A spray bottle is $1 at the dollar store.  Will last a long time since you'll just use a squirt or three every time you shave.

The alcohol displaces water and keeps your blade edges from oxidizing, which is what kills razor blades.  Your blades will last a lot longer and won't rust.

Actually, the alcohol tip is for all razors, even the 20-blade monstrosities or whatever they hawk these days.  Spray them down and you're $5/each razor head will last much, much longer.

Hmm, I'll have to implement this. Thanks for the tip.

I do not know if the alcohol makes the blades last longer but I use it to kill germs.  I used to get bumps on my neck from shaving.  Started with the alcohol and no more bumps.  Those bumps are from a bacteria that gets pushed under the skin when you shave.

After using the razor, I let the razor soak in peroxide while I shower to remove all the other organic crap, then wash it off and dunk it in 90-something-% alcohol for storage until its next shave.

The peroxide might be shortening blade life, but it helps solve the skin-irritation/bumps/acne issue I used to have with shaving.

I rinse with hot water and shake then place on window sill to finish drying. I change my blade after every 3-4 shaves which amounts to about once every 10-14 days.
