What would everyone say be a good salary as an engineer living in NY?  What would you consider to be a good average salary (average american) living in the US?

I checked the websites (salary.com) and don't know how accurate they are.

The IEEE has an annualy salary survey for EEs, and as I recall it's reasonably accurate. Perhaps the ASME has something similar.
