I just finished cracking one open and it sucks. I used to think that Sam Adams was the be all end all of good (well at least American) beer. But between this and that "cherry wheat" crap they have been putting out,  my opinion of the Boston Beer Company has greatly soured. Should have bought a pack of "Spaten: Optimator" now thats a hell of a beer.

I just discovered Sam Adams Light, from someone here at Arfcom.  It's now my favorite beer.  Smooth and no bitter aftertaste.  Hmmm Hmmm!

I seldom drink, but had a Sam Adams Cranberry Lambic over the Holidays as part of a Holiday brew pack.   Only once before in my life have I poured a beer down the sink, but I did with this beer as well.  It was horrible.

That said, I do think their regular Lager is pretty good.

Dude, perhaps you should consider that it's the TYPE of beer you don't like, and not the brewer.  Boston Brewing Co. makes a good deal of different styles of beers, you can hardly think that you'd like every style of beer.  For me, I'm a fan of big malty ales and lagers, and porters and stouts.  I'm not too much into these hop-bombs that seem to pass off as India Pale Ales and have an overbearing flavor of grapefruit.

Personally, you should go try other whites and see how you like those as well.  I think you will find that Boston Brewing tends to do a very good job at making whatever style beer they put out... for that style.

Go to www.beeradvocate.com and check out the reviews.  I'm a frequenter over there... great place for lots of info.

Sam Adams is not a quality brewer. They once were, but no longer. They are a marketing giant, however, and have fooled folks into the false belief that they are "craft" brewers. Moreover, most folks think they like beer, but do not. They would probably be better suited to a cranberry vodka, were it socially appropriate.

Three Floyd's
New Glarus
Samuel Smith
Fuller's
Young's
Ommegang
Duvel
Great Lakes
Capital
Sierra Nevada
Anchor
Goesser
Okicim

These, among many others, are quality brewers. Life is too short to drink crappy beer.

ETA - Just like New Belgium (Fat Tire, specifically), the problem may lie with the fact that they contract much of their stock out to other firms.

ETA again - Old Fez is still great. Why they don't brew it full on is beyond me.

They have over 21 diffrent brews, your trying so mewthing for the first time and your complaining about the entire company over one brew.
I think it is a little early to call it quits with Sam Adams. I dont like their Cranberry brew, but doesnt mean I dont love the other brews.
I know the cranberry isnt for me, so i dont buy it.
Good luck with your quest for the ultimate US brewer.

What they are doing is brewing a whole lot of different beers now in hopes of capturing more market share. And, why not do that? I still think their Boston Ale is terrific. They had a bock recently that was also good. Leave the fru fru flavors alone and you'll be fine, or  at least buy a single bottle to try the odd ones.

I like there "Light" and "Boston" everything else has just been either "meh" or as is the case with the white ale just plain bad.

It sounds like you don't really like beers with a lot of hop bitterness in their flavor, and you probably don't like anything that is darker than an amber, like the porters and stouts.

To each his own.

Actually my favorite beers happen to be Ayinger "Celebrator" and Spaten "Optimator".

ETA: But I do enjoy the occasional hefeweizen. From such brewers as Weihenstephaner.
