Sorry I keep starting a bunch of threads, but this one I think everyone will agree will be fun.
Let's talk about sample swaps. Samples are a great way to get to try something that may be impossible to get a hold of for some people, or even just an opportunity to try something before committing to buying a bottle. The way this normally works is that people post an inventory list of bottles that they have open, or ones that they are willing to open. This will let people see what you have and let you contact one another with the details about the swap. Generally this is done using 2oz boston rounds like these . Some people go all out and print mini labels that copy the normal label for the bottles others just use masking tape. The tinted are generally regarded more highly than the untinted, because sunlight is very bad for just about any consumable. As far as moderating the swaps, lets just all be adults about this. If someone is a jerk and doesn't send something they said they would try and communicate it out with them. Use your own decision making skills to determine if you want to trade a sample of X for whatever number of X. Let's all be adults and be good to each other. |

Getting ready to head out of town for business, but I am in for this plan. I just cannot add much to the plan right now. The samples from the UK are a great deal, but shipping sucks ass. Would rather keep our money on this side of the pond. |

Lots of whiskey swaps work this way...how about something a little different? Let's do blind swaps, and post reviews here, after which the person who sent it can do a reveal.
We'd want to start a thread where everyone lists what they've already had (and keep their list updated). Then if someone has something they haven't tried, they agree on a blind swap, taste, write reviews, then reveal. It would be fun to see who can identify the right region or distiller, and it eliminates any price bias from the review, which is a great way to find new value libations. Just a general idea/suggestion, definitely wrinkles to iron out. ETA: By the way, with the boston rounds you can get a case cheap from a wholesaler, and no matter where you get them, buy them with the poly-cone caps...the foil/paper caps degrade quickly. |

Surprise samples are always fun! I usually send one or two with every swap I do with people. It's just a fun little thing to share with people. |
