I got DirectTv installed I think last summer.  Regular round dish and one receiver.  I want to add a receiver in the basement.  Can I just split the incoming wire from the satellite with a standard coax splitter?  Or do you still need to get a dual LNB?

My brother got a setup for 4 receivers, but I can't see a dual LNB on his dish.

You need a dual lnb.  You can't splice into the exsisting wire.  It should have come w/dual lnb.  Get  some RG-6 coax that is swept tested up to 2.5Ghz.  DO NOT use the twist on ends sold by Radiotrash.  Make sure you do not cut/kink/bend too sharply on the wire.

If you need help or have Q's IM me at  my home 'puter ID: corsair883

eta:  your brother has either a Phase 3 dish,  or a dual lnb w/ a multi switch to feed 4 IRD's.
