Just how in the heck do you avoid this stuff when it's in a lot of foods?

Saturated fat is not trans fat.

Trans fats are in manufactured oils.  Corn, soybean, vegetable, canola, rapeseed, cottonseed, etc.  Avoid.  Olive oil, coconut oil, butter, ghee, lard, etc is good to go.

I hate to give the obvious answer, but, don't eat foods with them in them?!

Simple answer, eat vegetables. beans. meat.

White meat that is...

I'm 31 and consider myself to be in good health. I just want to avoid the family history of heart disease.

I have a family history of heart disease, grandfather died of heart attack at 48, dad has high cholesterol. I went to a very low carb diet, increased my intake of eggs and red meat (grass fed FTR).  In three months I lost 40 lbs and cholesterol normalized. My Dr said to keep it up.

Seems to me that the white flours, sugars, and processed foods, and inactivity are what kill us.

My Grandfather had huge heart problems due to processed foods and lack of exercise. My Dad has high blood pressure and cholesterol. Mine has been good since I last had it checked. Blood pressure is good as well. I started an exercise program for myself, 3 months ago.
