Anyone had one removed? I currently cut my hair with a 1 clipper guard on the sides and 2 on the top. Want to go shorter but have had a sebacious cyst on the back of my head about 5 inches behind my left ear and parallel with it. So... I want to get it removed. Just get drunk and cut into it and pop all the puss out or pay and have a Dr remove it? |
The inner lining of the sebaceous cyst produces all that cheesy material. If you remove the material, more will take its place. The entire cyst, including the wall, has to be removed. This isn't something you can do yourself. Scalp wounds tend to bleed a lot. You can try it out yourself, but I would strongly suggest having it done by a general surgeon. It can be done in the office under local anesthetic. I saw a lot of them taken out in med school. |

I wouldn't do it yourself. I had one on my back (shoulder blade) go infected on me. Thought it was an infected insect bite. Finally started pussing and bleeding and hurt like hell. Went to the doctor, he told me what it was and started poking around it. THAT HURT. 10 seconds later it exploded (think chestburster from Alien) right in his face. The pain stopped immeditaly and I turned around to find most of it hanging off the doctor's glasses and dripping on the floor. He was PISSED but couldn't blame anyone but himself. God that stunk! I've got another that's been slowing growing on my chest, last rib near the sternum for the past 5 or 6 years. Gotten to the point where it's starting to become an annoyance. Just skin and bone there with a hard cyst pressing against it.

wuss.... I cut the head of a tick out of my cock with an exacto knife once....bastard was the size of a butter bean and exploded when I tried to pluck him out... |
Sebum is secreted by hair folicles. Sebacious Cysts are cause by a hair folicle that has grown inside out on the underside of the dermis. It is growing form the inside further in instead of inside out. |
| I had one on my neck that I lanced several times over the years. Take everyones advice and just go to the Doc. They will come back over and over and I could have saved myself alot of time and pain had I just gone to the Doc and had it removed in the first place. |
I can tell you from personal experience that you should NEVER do this on your own. Yeah, it hurts and smells like death when it gets infected. |
NO. Not only hair folicles. linkeroo Sebaceous glands are also found in non haired areas of eyelids, penis, labia minora and nipples; here the sebum reaches the surface through ducts. At the rim of the eyelids, meibomian glands are a specialized form of sebaceous gland that secrete sebum into the tears coating the eye to prevent evaporation. |
| I had one near the top center of my back when I was a teen. Finally had it lanced before I got out of the USMC. A Corpsman stuck a syringe in it and drew out the puss. A putrid smell filled the room, and he gagged. It went flat, but it came back a few months after I was discharged. I squeezed that sucker til nothing was left. Smelly, yellow puss came out. It's looks like a dormant volcano all these years later. |

My Bassett Hounds get them. You wanna see a few pics of what it looks like when they hit one that has gotten a little too ripe on something? You'll have to go someplace else. It's bad enough cleaning up after that, I sure as hell ain't gonna take pictures of it. |
Hey! That is gross! ![]() ETA: aalyer paige toorbeloong to me! |
| I've removed a bunch of those in the clinic. The advice about seeking medical assistance is pretty solid. You need to get the whole sack out to keep it from returning. I used to have three or four of them that I saved in embalming fluid in a jar on my desk. To do it right involves an incision, blunt dissection, sack removal, suturing(sometimes), and some antibiotics like Keflex or something to prevent infection. Doing it yourself is asking for trouble. |
They showed me the one they removed from my neck. A lott bigger than I though it would be! |
| have it removed by a doc... I was boinking a nurse who told me and my roommate that it would go away if you smashed it. it was on my head!!! The two of them hit me with a thick medical book and knocked me out for about twenty minutes. Three days late I was at the doctor's office having it cut out. Save yourself the trouble!!!! |
Pete, It was just something I had to do. The parasitic bastard had tapped a main vien and was so fat it was unreal. I tried to smother him to get him out and it didn't work. So, I tried to pull him out and he burst (blood everywhere). Then (it was about midnight) I drove to walmart and purchased a xacto knife went home and cut the head out...lots of alcohol poured on to fight infection. The whole senario left me with great fear of ticks..... last summer, I got infested with the little variety after crawling under a singlewide....I personally pulled 37 ticks off me (deer ticks). I was freaking! When I got back to civilization, I stopped at my vet and asked if they had flea and tick dip for a primate and explained why...they just said they didnt treat exotics....I told them there was nothing exotic about being redneck.......I posted about it here and lots said go to the doc....I never did and lived... -HS |
That's one hell of a story HS! Gives me a sickening feeling deep in the pit of my gut, just reading it. I don't even want to know how you'd deal with a g*ddamned tapeworm! ![]()

I had Lyme disease... pretty bad. I'd be all over a primate tick treatment. ![]() - BG |

I had one on my back right between my shoulder blades. I was on over the road driver then and the constant irritation of my back against the seat made things very unpleasant. It would swell up and hurt so bad that I would stab it with a butcher knife to relieve the pressure. The smell that resulted was much like that of a rotting corpse. I thought that it was just a zit from hell until I went to see a doc about it. The VA docs cut it out in short order and I haven't had a problem with it since then. ETA: The scar looks like a bullet wound. |
Have a Doc remove it. Lidocaine, snip,snip,stitch stitch....done. |
As, C-4 stated the sac needs to be removed. If the entire wall isn't cleaned out, the cyst will reform. The material inside is mostly keratin by the way. I also had one on my right shoulder blade closer to my neck and finally had it removed. The scar is very nasty, but no one can see it unless I don't have a shirt on. The derm warned me it might come back, but she did a good job and it's never returned.

| Had one about an inch and a half in size removed from the back of my neck last year. It was right next to my spine, which I guess is the reason the doc had me knocked out for the procedure. Mine wound up being nearly hard as a rock, so it's damn nice to get rid of that thing. |

Warning!!!! Link to horrible nasty disgusting (I mean it!) medical pics of sebaceous cysts over scrotum!!! www.ispub.com/ostia/index.php?xmlFilePath=journals/ijs/vol9n1/scrotum.xml |

I had one while I was inthe Marines. Navy Doc's said they wouldnt touch it. Every summer it would get bigger than hell and ooze white shit out. When I got out I went to a dermatologist. He was pretty much like, "Why the hell didnt they remove this along time ago?" Anyway he took it out, it looked like a golf ball with spikes coming out of it. And now I have a big ass scar on left side of my back. Everyone who see's it wants to know what the hell happend. Im like oh I got shot/stabbed {fill in the blank} once. but its no big deal

I had a smallish one (about 10mm diam) behind my right ear and one about the size of a ping pong ball removed in one operation. Because the one on my back was directly over my spine, they decided to do it at the hospital, but it was still outpatient. I would definitely take the previous advice and have it removed by a doctor. Not only will it be nice to have it gone, but your self-esteem should improve greatly as well. Good luck! By the way, to the guy who cut off his skin tag, did it hurt alot? I was about to do it one day but when I put the scissors on it, it seemed to hurt alot already, like it knew what was coming.. And how much did it bleed?

Holy fucking hell
