Ladies and Gentlemen,
For as long as I can remember, the pro-freedom gun community has banded together when the usual suspects make an attempt to diminish our Natural Rights as outlined in the U.S. Constitution. We pull together, write our members of congress, donate to the NRA and defend our liberties as best we can. That is well and good, probably the only reason we still have our second amendment rights. The only problem with this is we are always on defense or at best sometimes making small gains. We are always reacting instead of being pro-active against the aggressors. This time, it appears to me that our level of commitment is different, more intense, more passionate. The outrage at the audacity of the tyrant who presently resides in the White house, and his leftist cronies, who would exploit a tragedy in order to rob us of our rights, is almost palatable. We have never been more unified, we have never been more focused. Is now not the time to make a concentrated effort to restore what has been taken away from us in the past? Is now not the time to use our united voice to not just defend what we have, but launch a full scale counter offensive repealing every gun control law that has ever been forced upon us? What I'm proposing is a serious grass roots effort to repeal the following: The Hughes Amendment to the 1986 Firearm Owners Protection Act. The 1968 Gun Control Act, which is where the term "Sporting Purposes" originated and produced the insidious idea that the second amendment pertains to Deer or Duck Hunting. And yes, the Holy Grail, a complete repeal of the 1934 National Firearms Act. Other efforts I suggest we strive to attain would be legislation that would limit the ATF's scope to only regulate Alcohol and Tobacco. There are no less than a dozen bills proposed in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to limit law abiding citizens rights. It is my belief there should be no less bills in both houses advancing our second amendment freedoms. I am not politically connected, I do not know how we would launch such an initiative. What I do know is I'm tired of being portrayed as a villain. I'm tired of the anti-gun politicians smirking as they smugly claim moral superiority while they circumvent the constitution. I'm tired of constantly defending my rights. I'm ready to be the aggressor. It is way past time we take the gloves off and start fighting in earnest by putting the gun grabbers on the defensive. So what say you? Do these thoughts have any merit? How could we pursue these ideas if they are worthwhile? |

Good luck with getting new MGs back in the registry in the current political environment. At best, we could shoot for SBR/SBS to be removed. Maybe silencers, but all it takes is CNN spouting "ASSASSIN'S TOOLS SOON TO BE MADE LEGAL" and that shit will drop like a rock. |

Sure the media will have a melt down, just as they are having now in their ochestrated effort to ram through a new ban.
What I'm asking is for the people like us to not just hold the line but lead an advance. Would there be enough support from those currently fighting? |

let's get a beachhead established before we launch a counter offensive. They own the media and are winning the public. Let's work on getting the public at least asking the right questions.... Yep. Work on basic education and training first. Hard to explain to someone who thinks a semi auto AR is fully automatic and deadlier than an African Safari rifle why arbitrary barrel lengths are stupid. I do agree that it is a goal we should keep in mind and work towards, though. |

Stop the current assault first - decisively - and THEN counter-attack. They are more organized. If we split focus now, it will dilute our effectiveness.

We need to harp on the fact that Europe regulates suppressors far less and (factual or not) encourages their use at gun clubs to mitigate the sounds of gunfire. Europe doesn't think they're "assassin's tools". In fact, I heard them tell the other cool countries that anyone who thinks that is just, like, a little kid and stuff. It's stupid. EVERYBODY knows it's just a way to be polite and healthy and stuff. Duh! |

My guess is that there isn't enough grass roots for any of that.
This has to go to SCOTUS to determine the scope of the Second weapons wise, and what is included in it - like Miller. It could go either way, but it is in our favor if we can get such a case to SCOTUS before we lose the 5-4 edge. My guess is that they will hear a case if it goes up far enough - just need 4 justices to agree to hear it, I think. If it goes our way, then we move forward. If it doesn't - ? |

I agree with you on establishing a beachhead. There's no question that is a requirement. What I'm suggesting is a Doolittle raid. While the beachheads were being planned he immolated Tokyo in direct retaliation for Pearle Habor. It was a clear signal that we would waste no time in taking on the opposition. |

Add them as amendments to Feinstein's ban when it comes to a vote That's a fantastic idea! The Hughes amendment was meant to be a poison pill to FOPA. It would finally serve a useful purpose if its repeal was a poison pill to any ban. Harry Reid has already said the S 150 would be debated by the full Senate including ample opportunity for amendment. Do we have a Senator that would be so bold? |
